My issue is the lack of the right tool and someone to wield. it. My proficiency may also be in question after such a long time since I've held any such tools.

Go into your nearest branch - I am sure one of the lads in the queue will help. I often use Screwfix and find their customer service is always excellent.  |

What is wrong with the screw in the first place ?
I can straighten if for you if it's bent although I can't be held responsible for it's structural integrity and I have a trick if the pozidrive or Phillips head has rounded off.
