how many people are in the sex industry because they have nothing else to offer the world except their bodies?

How does that affect you?

I used to be an escort.

Not anymore...just to make that perfectly clear.

I am a smart woman and used to also clear important customs imports paperwork.

I used to also work in banking.

I CHOSE to escort for a year and get out of what I saw as "the rat race".

So you see, it was choice and not because I had nothing more to offer

I imagine there are many others in the same position.

I imagine there are also some who really don't have any other choice, but that is a different matter and not because they have nothing else to offer the world.

Who says they have nothing else to offer.

I have no problem with sex workers. As long as they're doing it for themselves...as long as it's their choice

So then Trenton, just exactly what is it you offer this world that I cannot see for myself from your profile?

I already assume you are not a sex worker nor see eye to eye with any who are or have been sex workers.

Like any job, some are there by choice, some would rather be doing something else, some think they've nothing else to offer.

If you're in control of the daily logistics then it's probably an ok job.

Better than a minimum wage, zero hours Mcjob.

I would imagine people become sex workers for different reasons. Anybody who do this work seriously would have to have a business mind set.

I've a friend who has worked in the sex industry for many years, she is a very astute business woman who earns a very good living for her family.

How does it affect me? She can afford really nice wine which she sometimes shares with me. She also has really interesting stories to tell!

Why not emulate her by getting involved in the same industry?

She sounds like she is onto a winner!

I do hope youre applying the same logic to models, fitness gurus, scientific trial participants, dancers, actors etc. All people who use their bodies to make a living. Does it makes them less as people? Choosing to do sex work doesnt mean all you have to offer the world is your body. Thats a rather blinkered view imho

We have occasionally talked about that possibility in the past, i have ruled it out though as it just wouldn't fit well with other areas of my life.

I enjoy sex and being paid for doing what I like seems like a good idea.

I can't see many paying much for what my body has to offer though.

This may be a little unbelievable but I did on six occasions do some paid male escort work, (interesting story) anyway I did it for the thrill, and it was a thrill. But as far as some sex workers go, they may have little choice or even forced into it. But I believe that many do it because they enjoy it

You mean like a taxi driver having to clean up puke?

A carer having to wipe someones arse?

Police officers informing parents of the worst happening?

Alotnof jobs have negatives they would rather not do, not just escorts.

The same as repulsion in other jobs but an escort generally only takes bookings from things prior agreed and can always so no.

Why would it mean they have nothing to offer? That’s possibly the most narrow minded offensive opinion ever!!! We know people. Very intelligent. Talented, beautiful people. That frankly make more money in a week than I earn in a month. They have nothing to be ashamed of. If I thought I would be successful I’d fucking do it.

What of other areas of the sex industry where such choices may not be able to be made.

Do you think it has any affect on people if they participate in things they would rather not?

I imagine porn actors do not admire everyone they entangle their bodies with.

It doesn't affect me at all. I believe they could be successful in many things with the right breaks. Some even make their own breaks and combine it with their escort work. Some enjoy the lifestyle and have no need or desire to do anything else.

It's only those forced into it that is wrong.

All of it, however, is only supplying the demand of mainly men.

How does men paying for sex affect you?

Some people (though maybe self-employed) as such do not have the same choices as you in their areas of the sex industry.

No. They cannot be diminished by it.

Nobody is entitled to make someone else feel "less" or "worthless" because of their career choices.

The only people who would do that are uneducated themselves on the subject and judgemental, and in my opinion, worse than the person they are judging and trying to shame.

You used the word diminished, maybe look it up.

Or I will save you the hassle:

Diminish;

VERB

If you diminish someone or something, you talk about them or treat them in a way that makes them appear less important than they really are.

No one should be allowed to make someone feel worthless because of their life choices.

BUT we are entitled to look at and consider them....agreed?

"Because if someone has only their body to offer in this life (or feels so) are they or can they be diminished by that?

I have been looking at what everyone is writing and find it interesting.

No. They cannot be diminished by it.

Nobody is entitled to make someone else feel "less" or "worthless" because of their career choices.

The only people who would do that are uneducated themselves on the subject and judgemental, and in my opinion, worse than the person they are judging and trying to shame. Trying to shame?

Judging?

No discussion can be had on any subject it seems.

Why attribute the lowest intents to everything?

You used the word diminished, maybe look it up.

No one should be allowed to make someone feel worthless because of their life choices.

BUT we are entitled to look at and consider them....agreed?

Please elaborate on that question.

The discussion in itself stands fine enough by me with every contribution.

It's a discussion that's it.

Your very 1st paragraph, wobdering, implies some sex workers are inferior and only have a body to offer in this world.

Not, are there any? You assume their are some.

As I do not believe this, it has no affect on me. I don't look at anyone as just a lump of meat.

If you mean your opinion on the subject, that doesn't affect much. Just makes me sad that arcane bigoted views exist in the world still.

Fact: There are some in the sex industry that use their bodies.

Their bodies are their earner.

You do not have to see someone as a lump of meat to recognise that!

How does it affect you? Is more in relation to the idea of someone being diminished if all they lead with is their body.

Some do not like people to lead with their bodies...they prefer the mind within the body.

Or a mixture of both.

So the real question is really about how others feel about those who lead with their bodies primarily.

Those who use their minds even among the workforce tend to be more respected/feared than those whose noticable functions involve only their bodies.

I’ve read mist might have missed that bit, I read where you were answered quite detailed by a really nice friend who said she has had lots of other things to offer,

And how then you changed the direction of the thread. Which is fine!

Wirral

An acquaintance of mine is a pro-Domme. She has a degree and a masters in psychology, which she uses when dealing with her subs.

It is extremely lucrative work as well as being work she enjoys and work that fits around her family life.

It's certainly not something she does because she can't do anything else or has "nothing else to offer the world" .

As with anything, some do it from necessity, others from choice. Making huge assumptions about any large group of people is rarely helpful though.

If I believed someone was being trafficked or there was modern sl*very involved then I'd report those suspicions on the modern sl*very helpline (in fairness since I don't visit sex workers my reports have tended to be about car wash workers), but if someone is a sex worker by choice how should that choice affect me?

This runs along the lines I mentioned earlier on how we value different career choices.

Those of primarily (to outside observers) the body

Those of primarily the mind.

Those of both mind and body.

How many people work in the Adult Industry because it’s lucrative and they’ve made a conscious decision that it’s a step on the career path to where they want to end up? "How many people work in the Adult Industry because it’s lucrative and they’ve made a conscious decision that it’s a step on the career path to where they want to end up? To pay for their education… where they end up as a Doctor, surgeon, lawyer, research scientist, accountant…. Anything. Not sure what OP is driving at with the initial question. The initial wondering develops into a discussion.

Thanks for your contribution."

A discussion of what, though?

Your initial question / musing / whatever has been answered several times and yet we're still going over the same ground ad infinitum
