And offensive to ladies. I believe it's a myth and a slur to get rid of.
That ladies (we all know which part) smell like fish.
I have never met a lady whose vagina smelled anything like a fish or any other part of her. Can I safely tell the last person to mention it to me it's not true? Can we put this to bed once and for all? |

It’s only men who say it who have clearly never been with a woman. It’s like that scene in 40 year old virgin where he describes boobs as feeling like bags of sand and then everyone knew he’d never felt a pair. |

Not click bait. Genuine serious question. 1st heard it in the 80's, told a "Fish" was a gay man's term for a woman. |

its not a myth, it can and does happen
the myth part is that its related to a lack of hygiene when often it can actually be made worse by women who don’t understand the issue trying to clean more to get rid of the smell and making the problem worse
9 time out of 10 if a woman smells like fish its because she has something called bv (bacterial vaginosis) which is usually caused by an imbalance in the ph level allowing natural bacteria in there to over grow
it can be caused by washing with perfumed soaps or having baths that are too hot and have too much bubble baths in them, douching, vaginal lubricants or deoderants, if you let your partner cum inside you and the ph of their cum knocks off the ph of your vagina, the blood from your period knocking off your ph balance and a few other things
it can require antibiotics to get rid of (sometimes achievable with gels to resettle the ph) but its not an sti
or in much smaller number of cases it can be a sign of a different kind of infection and i think this is partly where the stigma comes from
separately our “fragrance” can change with our cycle and our diet
no we are not all meant to smell like roses all the time , but a fish odour is actually not a myth either

and the fact that i had to find all this out in my mid twenties from a gum clinic because i was (wrongly) paranoid that i had an sti when i had just been using shower gel that was far too harsh for intimate parts of my body , is exactly why i think much more about our anatomy needs to be covered in sex ed at school , but instead we have to learn the hard way while companies market things at young girls with the allure of smelling like peaches which are actually harmful to their body |

It's not a myth. Women's genatalia are just as prone to whiffiness as men's. Could be for a variety of reasons. Some medical. Some due to cleanliness no doubt.
See every day on fab is a school day eh, op? |

Thank you for an eloquent and informative reply and understanding it was a genuine search for the truth. I have genuinely learned something. I will pass it on to the person who mentioned it to me, it was one of my sons. I didn't know what to say to him. Now I do.
Again thank you |

"You really do want to live in a world where everything is perfect don’t you. And nobody offends anyone. Lovely as it sounds it’s probably not going to happen I’m afraid. "
I was asking a genuine question which, as one reply suggests, I knew could be seen as offensive. One poster took it seriously and posted an answer which has further down confirms, helps both sexes understand our bodies. My kids will now be told why so hopefully they do not use the insult. |

"This isn't the first time you have had offensive threads. Personally I find this thread useless and only here to generate drama"
I would like to know which other threads you found offensive. I would also like to especially thank the female posters who have given eloquent replies. At my age I have learnt something new. I can now educate my kids and reinforce in them not use certain insults. I am sorry if you already knew the answer (wonder why you couldn't explain it to me) or if you felt no need to learn the truth (although nobody made you participate anyway) |

I don't think it's crude. The female form and all it's whiffs, niffs, gunge and gloop are normal, and because we don't talk about it enough through thinking it's crude or embarrassing, we learn the bloody hard way. |

BV is more common in women who are sexually active, or douce, as they upset the natural balance of bacteria in the vagina.
Since being in lockdown I've never felt fresher down there.
Might become celibate. |
