Banter v flirting

Just having a conversation with a a good friend (however I describe her I’m going to look bad haha) and the subject of banter and flirting came up.
I’m genuinely oblivious to flirting. I don’t know I’m doing it and I wouldn’t know if someone’s flirting with me.
Everything I say on the forums, to me anyway, is pure banter. I just like to have a laugh and I reply in threads with the first thing that comes to mind. I’ve seen messages the next day and didn’t even know I typed that haha
I don’t know I’m flirting. I don’t believe I would know how to flirt.
What’s your thoughts on banter v flirting? |

Having nearly gotten myself in trouble on a previous thread of yours for bantering and being terrible at flirting, I now prefer LOD response of "No comment". Until I breakdown later in the thread and banter. Get threatened, told off for flirting or waffling on with no point relevant to original post, or warning coz reply to long and maybe angry and.................. what was the question? |

That aside, I think that what some dub that awful word, I see as flirting. There's nothing wrong with either of those things (except certain occasions). For the most part I'd say don't overthink it and keep being your flirty self Chipolata x |

I see them as the same thing but the intended outcome might be different.
If you find you are making a point of replying to a particular someone on any thread with banter then that might be construed as flirting.
I would say I am oblivious to anyone who may flirt with me but may have an idea that I want to particularly reply to some more than others. But then I don't flirty flirt anyway (as in 'you're gorgeous' type of thing). |

I hate the word banter too. Too many people use it as an excuse to act inappropriately.
I am also useless at flirting, think I missed that lesson in school |

I'm a natural flirt, I don't realise I'm doing sometimes. I'm careful how and who I flirt with on here though and if it's serious flirting, it gets taken to PM's. I know I can flirt with my friends and nothing get taken the wrong way. |

Banter is two way conversation on comedical content
Flirting is conversation of an overt sexual connotations

Banter = exchanges to make the other person laugh and ideally retaliate in a similar way. I have banter with my colleagues but I dont flirt with them. (OK, most of them

I don't take either of it seriously on here purely because online Its not a natural thing for me to do
In person It's completely different, but I think this is down to me preferring voice conversations as I can read their emotions, in text I can take one passage and read it many different ways depending on my mood |

To be honest, I really hate the term banter. It seems to be the coverall term for teasing or mocking someone, with or without their knowledge and say so. That’s how I see the word at least.

Flirting is friendly chat with a sexual overtone or content. It can mean there's genuine attraction and interest or it can just be playful with no intent. In real life its usually easy to differentiate but less so online, I think. |

We have banter with friends, banter in our books is non sexual. Banter is well understood, especially up North. As for flirting, apparently I'm a natural flirt, I don't even know I'm doing it sometimes. It's very much my nature and personality.

Don't agree with Chipolata.. sorry the OP, banter can often be sexual, flirting can also be banter. A lot of flirting on here is to make the flirtee laugh without a chance of sleeping with them. Especially in Covid times. |

I’ve been told I’m a flirt, I just naturally do it, I don’t know how much it comes across on here though.
I’m not keen on the word banter, as someone else said, it’s quite often an excuse for bad/offensive behaviour, I think we should use the words witty repartee or ripostes? |
