Foreskin - can you help with?

Morning All
Serious post for a change looking for some help and guidance.
My young son has a really tight foreskin and can't pull it back very far at all. I think we will have to have it removed.
Somehow I have no experience of circumcised penises, so please excuse the question (not intended to cause any offense), but how common are they these days? Has anyone else suffered or come across the problem above?

You might need to post this again without the young age inferred.
I believe it's common and easy to rectify at all ages. Your doctor should be able to sort it.  |

Yes, my son had similar, so much so he had an infection behind it.
We were encouraged to pull it back or to encourage him to pull it back while in a warm bath. This did help, he never had surgery and as far as I am aware all is still good. |

Sounds like he has phimosis - first port of call is not to get it removed but to take him to the doctors. They will most likely prescribe him with steroid cream to apply to the area, that will help loosen the skin and with stretching exercises help him retract easier, this process could take a few week weeks or months depending on the severity of it.
If that doesn't work then circumcision might be the next move, but try the docs first. |

My son had to have it done a few years ago, all sorted now. It's a necessity in some circumstances so ho with what your specialist says. My ex husband also had to have his removed for the same reason. Made no difference whatsoever. A willy is a willy, right?? Whether it's wearing a hat or not!  |

Hi
I personally had this problem as a child and because my parents were older parents it wasn't picked up on. Please take him to doctors for advice as I had to have a circumcision in my 20s which was really not a pleasant experience. Getting it done earlier, helps prevent later life problems and is not so invasive. |

I had exactly the same problem, as an adult in my late 20s, so I had to have the operation. I don't think the condition is hugely unusual, I've seen it mentioned a few times before on here.
I'd guess circumcised penises are still very much the exception rather than the rule in the uk, although being straight I'm not best placed to give you a ratio! It certainly isn't something so rare it's seen as freakish. The reaction from women has generally been fine, although some do find it is easier to play with when there is a foreskin to slide up and down.
For me, although I had no real choice, there have been pros and cons to the op. Personally I prefer the way it looks now, and a circumcised penis is sometimes seen as easier to keep clean. The risk of tears to the "banjo string" during sex is a thing of the past! On the other hand the op did/does involve a general anaesthetic, I had a lot of pain and discomfort during the healing process and there is inevitably some permanent loss of sensation in the head.

In to my teens, I couldn't take mine back at all, too tight and painful but it eased during my teens to be absolutely fine. I'd see how it goes but worth checking out to be safe |

When I was 8, had the same problem and had to be circumcised. I had discomfort for a week, but glad it was done!
See what your GP suggests, is best advice.

What age are we talking about? It's perfectly normal for the foreskin not to be fully retractable until seven, and very unusual that it can be done before five.
Are you encouraging him to pull it back or is it causing him some problem? If it's not actually a problem to him then leave it alone. It can change over time. |

Are you asking if it’s alright to have it done as you ask how common it is.
I’m Circumcised and hate it. Had mine done more or less at birth due to the skin completely over the head so know no different. But my mate had it done at forty for the same reason as your son and he loves it now.
If you know about it you seem open with him so depending how old he is ask him if erection hurt it or even just cleaning it
What ever the next step talk to him then straight to a Doctor. |

Your GP may recommend he sees a specialist if stretching with a cream of the foreskin does not work. Circumcision, in spite of its rather negative image in the UK, still has a medical value. Phimosis is definitely one reason and should he need the operation it would be done on the NHS and could be done as a day procedure under local anaesthetic. This is a subject his dad should be involved with. |

Speak to the doctor. I wish my parents had.
Mine was sorted around the age of 29 after having to go to the doctors after having a very uncomfortable, worrying and embarassing encounter. Steroid cream and streching helped mine

Google phimosis treatment depending on age he may be able to use steroid cream and stretchers to slowly increase his foreskin size and free the Eskimo from his igloo.. Good luck! |

I had this issue when I was young. My doctor advised hot baths. Soak and over a period of time try to ease it back using some of lubricant like baby oil. . It eventually stretches. It worked for me over a period of a month or so. Although I guess in some cases surgery is unavoidable. So I would obviously recommend a visit to your gp.

Nothing to add really. One of my lads (19) told me when he had this problem. Told him it was a problem of many men, especially with a bigger than average girth. That bit he liked.
Cream and exercising sorted it. Better than MGM. |

Tried to inbox u but can't:/ anyway my boy seems to have a similar issue he's actually pulled it back in the bath and it got "stuck" since then he quite worried about about doing it again I've took him to the docs and as he's such a young age the doc said its quite normal and to go back in a couple of years if it doesn't change and said it might only need a small cut to open it a bit can I ask how old ur boy is |

As has been mentioned there are alternative treatments which I would advise investigating thoroughly before settling on circumcision. I deeply regret mine aged ten for tight foreskin. |

I know someone who had that problem when he was younger. He said the Doctor gave him some cream to put on it and he had to keep stretching it. Apparently it was a bit painful but as an adult he says it was 100% worth it. |
