Signed up for the "100 squats a day in May" fundraising challenge. It was fine for the first few days over the bank holiday weekend, but finding it harder now I'm back to doing fitness classes online each morning. I'm a lazy lardarse, so even getting up for the 8am classes has been astonishing the past few months
Anyone got good advice either for completing squats or easing the unhappier muscles? |

"Quite a tough challenge but a really good cause, OP. I guess they can be staggered over a day rather than all in one go ? "
Exactly, you can stagger them.
Great cause.

"I reward based mine, split them into 4 and I couldn't have a cup of tea until I completed that set"
Ooh yes rewards are a grand idea. Can't believe I didn't think of that! I have a little chart of the fridge split into 5 blocks of 20 to keep track...although my trainer annoyingly finished us up on 70 so I had to do more straight after class! |

"Are these BW squats? "
Presuming this means bodyweight? If so, yes we do a few with weights in classes but I'm so feeble and fat I'm still using 400g soup cans for weights haha! When I'm doing them myself, I'm splitting into 5 groups of 20, just bog standard with the occasional goblet or wide leg squat depending on how badly my knees are creaking! |

"Do 20 squats every time you go to the loo.... Soon get them done "
I've actually been doing them when I brush my teeth, wait for the kettle to boil or for my dog to decide whether she wants to go outside or stay in feels quite productive! |

Please don't knock yourself by calling yourself feeble and fat. You have decided to do a challenge and are working hard at it. That is so much more than a hell of a lot of people who do absolutely nothing. Be proud of yourself and keep at it. |

I appreciate the positivity. I'm acutely conscious that I'm morbidly obese, and comfortable describing myself as fat because I am. Will drop the feeble as I'm working on my strength, though again I know I'm well below average. Will report back one day when I feel strong! |

I’m almost certain you lack dorsiflexion like most people do.
Find something you can place your heels on so they are slightly raised. A broom handle (if you have shoes on) or a rolled up towel are common things used.
Ankle mobility really effects how a squat feels. Without it they can feel awful, with it they can feel amazingly natural |

Thanks, I'll give that a try with a towel for the next few days |
