AJW going to captain tour….. I don’t think I would have done that because I don’t think he is a nailed on starter in the lions test XV … I would have gone with Maro Itjoe

Well now...I like the Lions as a spectacle but I'm not overly enthusiastic about it. I would much rather see ireland win. I'm sure any rugby fan prefers their home nation rather than a hybrid team. But of course its rugby at a high level so always worth watching. I do have an issue with Galand. Not as a coach per se but in his attitude toward irish players. His parting with the IRFU was not the most pleasant and he has had a chip on his shoulder ever since. Not for a second am I suggesting that any irish player should have an automatic right but his treatment of Brian O Driscoll in 2013 was disgraceful. A coach that holds a gripe is not a good idea. We are still very wary of him here in ireland

I wouldn’t of even considered him for skipper and possibly not for the tour.

Having said that though I do think he’ll be good for the midweek side.

I presume the tour will be a normal lions format with provincial games midweek.

I’ll wait to see the official selection here as Fabio is always super reliable with this kind of info.

Cheers.

His selections at 2nd row are going to be questioned… Corey hill and Courtney lawes over James Ryan and Ritchie gray!

Garry ringrose can consider himself unlucky to be left out…. Also Kyle sinckler and johnathon davies

Richie Gray is a proper work horse I would have him in my team, Kyle Sinckler is a 50/50 bet on wether he’s having a good day or a bad day Personally I don’t rate Stuart Hogg at all, he could have stayed at home for me

AWJ is a good choice of Captain, see what he’s done with Wales, he’s a born winner and leader, great with referees and that’s what you need as a Captain. Itoje is still a bit too inexperienced to captain the tour and was a lot less disciplined in This 6 nations than what he used us to

Gatland saved me the argument of what use is Johnny may by leaving him out…

I like bundee Aki… but no way am I putting him in instead of ringrose! Johnny hill is a lucky boy as well!

Not knocking it but nought to do with Lions (by the way good luck with Goff, confidence shot not good in a QB that can't read coverage)

The best English player going wasn’t ever anywhere near the six nations squad, (Sam simmonds).

I cannot believe he’s taking Elliot Daly

There’s something to be said for the talisman aspect of AWJ but I can’t see him playing every game.

Perhaps Itoje will captain a couple of games?

I see why he took Daly… utility.. he can play wing, centre or full back! I don’t think he plays any well but that another discussion….

As my friend my friend said, gatland is a secret genius as he has managed to get The Irish, Welsh and English fighting against some Of their own inclusions… and when the Scots get over the fact they got 8 on the plane, they can join our discussion lol

As far as 2nd rows go, Ryan hasn't been the same since injuries. Not much to choose between the 2 Jonny's. Gray provides pure grunt, Hill is a good lineout spoiler, gets around the park well, and scores tries...almost for fun. Beirne and Lawes are there as for 2nd row cover as well.

Surprised Underhill isn't going!

Sexton has had too many failed HIA's recently, plus can be a bit fragile, so for his health, glad he's not going. Personally, I'd like to have seen Paddy Jackson given a chance, he's certainly in form at the moment, although may be still a bit soon following his "transgressions"!

Can sort of see why, in the absence of a crash ball merchant (Tuilagi etc) why "O'Aki" is going, but would rather have seen Slade on the plane, not least that he can provide FH cover.

Really can't see the justification of providing Van der Merwe with an all expenses trip home (certainly not at the expense of May). Still, at least he can order the beers in the local lingo!

Spencer is probably the form SH in the Premiership at the moment, but probably is still suffering from the Saracens "fall out".

On that subject, George, Daly, Mako and especially Farrell.....just why????

Sinckler can possibly feel a bit aggrieved.

Still, if I knew as much as the selectors.......

Glad I decided not to go, not entirely sure there will be spectators!!

If that's a true SA 'A' Team (Marx, Koch, Etzebeth, du Toit, de Klerk, Le Roux etc etc), then we're screwed!

Owens was OK in the set, nothing else. Henderson might have played himself out of contention, as may have Faletau. Murray is too slow (as is Farrell, at 10, although his kicking may save him). Williams seems to be a bit of a lightweight, but may be concussed anyway. I had Harris as a possible, but not sure anymore.

It was an unofficial 4th test which might come back to haunt the Boks. Now Gatland has a chance to do the analysis work on them before the test series. Plus they didn’t score a single second half point. Things to work on but not hopeless yet
