It’s a general rule of thumb that most threads get drawn in tangents along their run.
It depends on the topic as to how bad.
I used to joke that it was only various degrees of separation from any topic to becoming about ducks.

Not really, it can be a bit of a shitter if I'm trying to reply to every post and it confuddles me a little knowing where I was up to and has led to me missing people out before by accident coz I've skipped where others have been flirting and missed a comment in the middle.
Other than that nah, but that's not really a biggie. |

I've seen it happen a lot but unless you are there to police it and constantly bring it back on track you kind of just have to leave them to it.
Sometimes if it is a new poster I feel its rather inappropriate and puts them off posting gain, especially if there are lots of 'in' jokes and flirting going on.
Of course there will be those saying 'if they can't handle it they should stay off the forums' but that's just the defense of a bully in my opinion. |

Depends on the thread. Depends who. Depends if they know where to stop. I spoke to a friend about it who said he enjoys them growing and taking their own life.  it works for some posts and they might turn out to be the lounge article of the day... But not when you have specific outcome of the post in mind. |

It is just the nature of the beast, too many personalities and opinions to keep things 100% focused.
It is an annoyance and frustrating but it is also something that you just have to live with.
If I tend to start a more serious thread, I do so in the knowledge that it is highly likely going to not just go off on tangents, but derailed by pointless comedic trolling or public displays of flirting.
I have been guilty of both myself, so can't complain to much though. |
