Had my first ever experience of this the other night... Fuck me it was scary!! First I heard like a loud whooshing noise in my ear which woke me up, then I realised I couldn't move. It lasted maybe 30 seconds but the blind panic made it feel like hours...
Does anyone else ever get this?? |

I've had it a few times in the last few years, mainly when I've been properly stressed. never had the ear thing, but totally get the sudden wake up. also feels like I've been having a heart attack which leads to blind panic.
like you say - probably lasts seconds but feels like hours.
luckily I've never had the hallucinations that people report with it - if that happened too I don't think I'd ever sleep again |

I'm not sure if mine was actually the same thing, but after it happened I did a bit a research to find out. Turns out it's quite common for a part of the conscious brain to wake up long before the motor function does, for me I was scared shitless, lasted probably less than 10 seconds but felt like a hell of a lot longer |

Used to have it years ago when I was very stressed. I needed to be awake to protect myself, so that feeling of struggling to properly wake up and be able to move was horrible. |

Had this a couple of years back, was the weirdest feeling, could hear and see but not move a muscle. It felt like I had a massive weight on me which I kept trying to move but just couldn’t do a thing. Then a few moments later it just went |

Had it loads and mainly until about twenty years ago.
One morning I sensed an alien approach me and tinkle with my brain. Either that of the cat chewing on my feet. Not very pleasant but soothed by a hot morning brew. |

Not when sleeping naturally, but after an operation I was on codeine and woke up realising I couldn't breathe at all, was paralyzed and could get help. It was terrifying! Luckily the machine beeped when my oxygen fell and the nurses came running. Turns out I'm allergic to codeine |

I suffer sleep paralysis quite frequently due to ptsd and I sleep terribly most nights because of the fear of falling asleep and it happening again.... And when I don't I usually wake up with migraines or earache from nocturnal bruxism instead lol.... I would actually sell my soul for even like 5 hours uninterrupted sleep a night |

"I've woke think someone in my bedroom can't move they holding me down. I try scream but can't. I have it a lot. I put down to been single parent been on my own."
It’s like your head has been strapped to the bed isn’t it or just feels like a lead weight. Such a weird, horrid feeling |

I haven't had this in a long long time, but such an awful and frightful feeling. Couldn't move any muscle whatsoever, even open my eyes!! Felt like ages, and got me in a panic as started thinking I was in purgatory |

I suffer with this! (MrsB) I usually get a feeling before I even fall to sleep that something isn’t right... I can open my eyes and move them but no other part of my body. Mr B has been awake before and I’m trying to scream with every part of me and he says I sound like I’m trying to talk but literally cannot make a word. I’ve felt before like I’m been weighted down and sometimes felt my legs been pulled. Not very nice at all. Seems to last so so long xx |

I've had it before and it's fucking horrible.
Scared me, it's like I was dreaming I was awake but couldn't move, but was awake if that makes sense.
So glad I've only ever experienced it the once!

Mr S suffers this when stressed. Told by neurologist that it’s mild narcolepsy...he’s mostly paralysed with conscious nightmares...but now knows to wake himself up and I know because he sounds distressed. Always happens within an hour or going to bed. He now gets up, has a cup of tea and resets. He had trauma too growing up |

When my brother passed away early, I suffered with this quite a bit. My mum passed away earlier than normal and I suppose I had on my mind it was my turn...
I’d wake up suddenly and feel like my chest was tight and then I’d be afraid to go back to sleep. It lasted for a couple of months. Stress does cause it so I found doing exercises to relieve stress helped.

I get it quite bad. I stop breathing and I get a pain in my chest, I know that if I just breathe the pain will go away but I fear breathing because I think it will cause more pain (it obviously doesn’t but in a soporific state my body overrides my brain until I give my head a metaphoric wobble)
The fear is quite something to overcome |

Yes, frequently after a busy nightshift when I’m trying to sleep the next day. Each time the feeling of not being able to move or make a sound is terrifying.

I’ve had this every morning for the last three weeks now! Never had it before! I can hear what’s going on in my street and this morning could hear my daughter talking to me, but cannot move my body, speak or open my eyes at all! I’m aware I’m awake at the time, but just can’t do anything! There’s no panic or anything, infact it’s peaceful, but each time I wonder whether I’m going to wake up? Bizarre feeling! Miss pc |

I only had it once. Luckily enough I had read enough about them that when it happened I panicked for 2 seconds, realised what it was and managed to calm myself down and stop it. Definitely "worth it" to know how it is but will happily never have it again |

I have suffered from it a few times.....as said before, it's terrifying when it happens but probably only lasts a few seconds.....all it is (in my opinion, not a professional one), is your mind waking up before your body has....
Doesn't mean it's not scary when it happens though ! |
