Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

I saw a post about consumerism that framed the 'needy' as vital for the 'needed'. It got me thinking about our more intimate relationships, including those close friendships, where we might claim to be put off by needy people.

Is it really the neediness or just the particular neediness of *that* person?

Is anyone immune to wanting to be needed by someone?

Neediness is a sign that person lacks closeness in other areas of their life, that’s why they get overly needy.

So our mind kinda fills the gap. If other people aren’t being close to them there must be a reason, so I better move forward carefully

Are there people who are universally, or mostly, not able to find closeness? Or, are they seeking that closeness in the wrong people?

Some people aren’t. We are social creates and not everyone was made equal. If your lack certain social or physical traits you might find it harder to be close to people

Do you mean needy people buy more products because it temporarily fills a void, because they are more Susceptible to the endorphin rush that makes them feel better, so then they crave the feeling again and buy more crap they don’t need ?!

Past trauma and unmet needs from childhood, creates a ‘needy’ adult. Someone may well be able to meet those needs, and someone else might not. Everyone has needs as an adult whether they recognise it or not.

Some may need to feel heard because they were never listened to as a kid, some may need reassurance as an adult because of an absent parent. People shouldn’t be written off just because their needs can’t be met by certain people as there will be others out there that can provide what’s required.

If someone is put off it’s likely due to the fact they don’t understand and can’t meet a particular need.

I’ll get back to my gin and tonic

That was one of the lines in the post. The other was about creating a need that ensures people remain needy for that product (Apple comes to mind).
