I have a neighbour with cancer who semi regularly takes not well during the night and the paramedics come out.
Thing is........ each time it happens there are two ambulances. I'm curious - OK, my nose is bothering me - the circumstances that would require a team of four to deal with that.
I've seen them out with their dog and they not extra heavy so I don't think that is a factor. That said, when it happened Christmas time with all the snow, patient was brought out on their back on a stretcher - practically mummified - with a family member holding / carrying each corner.
Other night there 3am was the fifth time in about six months two ambulances were there. And no, I didn't sit to watch to see if they were taken away. It was the radios that woke me up causing me an "Oh dear........" |

Often two ambulances are sent to try and reach the time targets set for the area.
Although it maybe that the first ambulance is treatment and second ambulance is escort to get patient to hospital faster or something.
Just from what I’ve read as we call out ambulances for our Service Users from time to time. |

When I was a domiciliary carer, one service user had to have two ambulances each time as they had to have more than three people to lift and move. Not a heavy person, but was too fragile and also the other factor was the layout of the house. So had to be lifted in a carry sheet by 4-6 people.

I have had to call an ambulance for my mother 8 times this year, often a rapid response vehicle arrives first followed by an ambulance. Other times one ambulance arrives then the paramedics call for another. Occasionally just one arrives. I've never asked why this is but often the paramedics attending first call for back up one way or anotner. |
