Ninja or... nonja..?

Do you hide yourself from views? I didn't for a long time, but as soon as I knew people couldn't see us looking at them, it feels so much more relaxing bouncing around any profile we want without drawing any extra unwanted attention.
I expect we lose wanted attention too, but on balance it seems worth it. |

I'm a part-time ninja.
If someone has caught my attention or I'm having a perve, I don't mind them seeing that I've looked.
If I'm just being nosey, want ideas for photos or ideas for my profile, then I go in as a ninja as I wouldn't want to mislead the owner. |

"Damn you two are hot
I love to get wach you two on cam
When you two are on cam
They're not talking about being on cam, they mean selecting not to show up on "who's looked at me" "
You have to excuse the Prince - he gets a little overexcited. |

You do realise that when you're not in ninja that even the views you did in ninja shows up too don't you?
I don't bother with ninja anymore. Any pics I like get fabbed, so I can always look at them again in fabbed pics if I want to. If I want to see any more added then I add the profile to hotlist. This also helps to see if they put any enticing/off-putting status updates too |

Does it?
If so, that's a bit crap!
From a tech side, surely it's easier and quicker for them to just not store the data about the visit if ninja'd, rather than have to check everyone's current status whenever the views page is looked at.
I've got an idea to test it. Can you check if I've viewed your profile? |

I wouldn't see if you've looked at me or not because I'm not looking for men, so those views automatically get filtered out from my 'who's viewed me' list. Trust me though, that's how it works. You sometimes notice people looking, disappearing, then reappearing a while later - well you will if you don't get that many views per day .
I guess it's swings and roundabouts in terms of technically how the site is coded; on one hand you have to write a bit of code to not record the view based on the profile's ninja status, or on the other hand you just filter it out from the results by making a simple change to the database query the system uses to return the profile information or the count. I suspect ninja mode has been an add-on at some point, which is why it might work like that. |

I'm still not certain you are correct.
I filter out men, but they are still shown in my views page, so that part can't be true.
I've also never seen someone disappear from that page, but that would be easy to miss.
So I'm taking it you couldn't see my view? I liked at your profile whilst hidden but then I hid straight afterwards. |

It's not really swings and roundabouts.
Not writing the visit to the database would be a couple of lines of code, to query the state of HideMe and to skip the write function.
To hide based on a changing state would mean every visit is stored (increasing the database size), then the server would have to query every user that visited your profile to check the current state of HideMe before returning the list of users.
Yes, it's not a huge difference but when you are running a server with tens of thousands of users, it all adds up and means slower performance and higher costs. Not something you want to have, especially when the outcome is a less desirable feature.
It's definitely got me wondering though if I'm wasting my time toggling it though, so I've raised a question about it. |

Sorry, it's the male message filter that seem to affect if I can see male profiles looking at me or not. I had it turned on. If I turn it off then I can see your view 5 hours ago. |
