When my parents were alive any problems they would ring and I would be there.
Acroos the road I have neighbours in their 70s bot suffer from debilitating illnesses, but manage day to day with no problems, unless it's something out of the blue.
This evening I got a phone call from the lady, most upset. Their lounge had an infestation of tiny flies. I went across and have hopefully at least alievitated the problem.
My point is, they have two grown up children, both drive, and live 5 minutes drive away. Their reply when their Dad rang.
Go ask Yvonne across the road.
Please don't get me wrong, I don't mind helping people.
But would you leave your parents distrssed. It is often said that your parents become your children and surely you give back a little of what they gave you
(apologies spelling mistakes lol)

"Personally I would have asked for their phone number and told them what I thought.
I did think of that "
I would do it, let them know you don't mind being there for emergencies but if they dont step in you will do your best to persuade the elderly neighbours to leave their inheritance to charity. |

We used to have a woman live down the road from us, she clearly had some mental illness. She would often be out in next to nothing and even spotted her going to the toilet over a drain on a busy high street she's got grown up kids, two sons, I can count on one hand how many times they visited in the 8 years I've been here. The house was much too big for her and she wasn't looking after herself or her home. Last I heard she was put in a mental health ward and then into a smaller property on her release.
I don't see my mum as often as I'd like but we both have busy work life and we speak everyday, I would never see her distressed, some people should be ashamed |

My Mum lived a 30 minute drive from me and yes, due to work I didn't see her as often as I should. But as you say you are with her when needed |
