Following on from the movie line thread, it got me thinking of the mandela effect again... basically its a weird situation where loads of people remember something differently to how it actually happened - or a shared collective experience.
I first heard about it a few years ago when the 'Luke, I am your father' line in Star Wars wasn't actually correct... or the fact that Queen don't really end 'We are the champions' with 'of the worldddd'.
Loads of examples out there - have a google and it will blow your mind!
Anyone else familiar with it, or got any examples that are just a bit crazy?  |

Kit-kats never had a hyphen in the name, Curious George doesn't have a tail, Pikachu doesn't have a black mark at the end of his tail (mis-remembering lots of info about tails), Monopoly Man doesn't have a monocle, C-3PO has one silver leg..... |

'Play it again, Sam' is probably the most well known one from Casablanca. The line is never said in the film.
Human memory is not infallible and can contain errors and be altered over time. False memory is interesting in relation to 'post-truth' and how the internet could be affecting people's memories. |

its an interesting point as to whether the mandela effect existed before the internet

I would hazard a guess and say it's been around as long as human memory.
The 'Play it again, Sam' line has been part of popular culture for a long time.
And there have probably been studies which show a group of people the same event and on recall there will be differences in each recollection. |

Brother and I both remember a cartoon character from way back when called The Hunter, and his schtick was making bad pins which no one on the show got so he'd have to explain "That's a joke, son"
Yet I've never met anyone else who knows anything about this programme, and can't even find it online. But we know we haven't made it up, honestly  |
