Evening Ash. I saw lots of purple dinosaurs today on a lovely tea dress and I thought to myself "If Jim was a woman he'd totally wear that dress". I checked with him later on and he confirmed that if he was female he would wear the purple dinosaur dress. It was exciting. |

Tonight I have been streetviewing on Google Maps. It's an idle hobby of mine. Also looking at Nada Worldview and USGS Explorer.
Tonight I learned about the village of Imber near Salisbury and how the MOD pretty much evicted everyone in the late 40's and they are still not allowed back home.
Then I learned about the Bleaklow Bomber, which was a B29 USAF Superfortress aircraft that crashed near Glossop in 1948 and the wreckage is STILL THERE. Google it...fascinating stuff. |

I dont live far from there, the ground around the crash site still throws up the odd bit of the aircraft, I believe it crashed because of fog |

According to Google, the pilot Captain Landon Tanner and co-pilot Captain Harry Stroud were flying by instruments as the area was covered in low cloud. Based on the flight time, the crew believed it had passed the hills and began to descend. At about 11:00 the aircraft hit the ground at 610m above sea level, 300m north east of the summit of Higher Shelf Stones and it was engulfed in flames.
Basically, they thought they were higher than they actually were.
I don't know if that is pilot error or if their instruments were faulty or just not that advanced for low cloud.
