Sorry to hear OP, any idea what's triggered it, if anything?

Oh yeah I know but it's just getting worse, waiting for a GP appointment but it's not for sometime yet.

Suffered depression for years, but used to feeling like Marvin the depressed robot from hitchhiker's.

But never experienced this manic behaviour before.

It's unsettling but guess it's just another thing to learn to control.

What can you do to burn energy that isn't destructive or compulsive? Do you have your partner there to look after you?

Yeah she's here, plenty of jobs round the house to do, it's the incessant waffling nonsense that's really annoying.

Annoying is better than dangerous. Channel it as best you can

Sounds silly but try deep long breathes and get your partner to ask you questions

Name five things you see

Name four things you hear

Name three things you touch

Name two things you can taste

I always forget the last one

But any question will do it just allows you to re focus

Big hugs, anyway. Mania obviously variable. Glad you're not a risk to yourself. Just hold on as best as you can.

This is called grounding, and is very useful

Greater London

If you are really concerned about the behaviours during what you feel is of a manic state you can self refer to SPOA (Single Point of Access) it might be faster and give you support you may need. Either way I hope are ok xx

Do you ever meditate? That helps me slow down.

Oh god, really don't want to come across as all New age and 'hippy' but have you ever tried meditations?

I've been under stress lately and they've helped so much.

Sorry to hear this OP, you are aware of it which is a great help. Are you able to use distraction techniques with hobbies or activities until can get sorted with GP etc? That can be useful.

Newry Down

If you are feeling unusually energetic, then try to divert your energy into a productive activity or if you cannot settle then go out for a long walk or run.

If you find your uplifted mood overwhelming, then contact the community mental health nurse or social worker, possibly via your A and E department.

They might be able to bring your appointment, or arrange for you to see a professional much sooner.

A traditional mood stabiliser is lithium.

A couple of years ago, I had to arrange to have an old friend sectioned; his mood had destabilised and he was behaving erratically and threateningly, even towards me, who had his best interests at heart.

When he got professional help, his demeanour changed rapidly back to his old normal self.

Take care of yourself.

I get like this, sometimes it leads to boredom spending which is bad, or over exerting myself which is bad for my legs (i have hip problems)

The best thing for me is usually to clean or start planning something, keeps my mind busy, like a day out or a little trip.

Things are starting to open again now.

Or reading helps too to calm my mind down

It's a manic episode which led me into Fab. I get them every few months but not quite as bad as the very first time a few years ago (or I now recognise them beginning).

I actually use the Fab forums as a way of getting the bouncing brain under control by splurging posts and tiring my mind out.

Walking helps as well or some sort of physical exercise. Anything to use up the extra energy.
