He won them over a lot longer period though. To me he is still impresses the most.  |

He will always be one of the greatest sportsman ever, no one can ever take that away from him.
Besides, he comes across as a very good sport, and I bet he is delighted to have lost his crown to the younger generation.

it really took some dedication to train for that many olympics doing the strenuous 7 day a week training that sir steve undertook.
matt pinsent & james cracknell did not do it for that many olympics.
dont think his succesive olympics ever be beaten. |

I don't feel sorry for him at all.
Hes an extraordinary olympian, that likes of which we might never see again due to the increased demands of athletes these days but hes enjoyed the adulation of the nation for a long time now and eventually a new guard comes along.
He'll forever be remembered as probably the greatest olympian we've ever had and nothing will take that away the adulation and recognition that comes with that.
All athletes want to win and that means that records will be broken again and again, thats what they're there for.
He is outstanding though! |

Was it after 2 golds that Cracknell packed in partly because what ever he achieved he would never be as good as Steve Redgrave.
But Redgrave has shown himself to be a true gent and sportsman in these games. He was great to watch during the rowing and to be there and one of the first to congratulate Hoy was a very sporting gesture - you could see the warmth and friendship between them.

I think Jurgen Grobler would disagree: he earned his place in the boat for Sydney and could have been replaced by Ed Coode as easily as Tim Foster (the etc.) almost was when he injured his wrist. |

Steve is your total gent and is so sporting, i'm sure all he wants to see is us winning as many medals as possible, it's us against the rest of the world at the end of the day. |
