Am just ticking in to a home made salad and it's got some odd things in (well I think so anyway lol) so I wondered.... What's your favourite salad ingredients.
I've got....
A whole little gem lettuce
A whole avacodo
3 spring onions
2 tomatoes
1 smoked haddock fillet
4 slices of pickled gherkin cut up
A pinch of sea salt
A homemade chimichurri dressing (r*peseed oil, red wine vinegar, fresh parsley, dried oregano, red chilli, salt.
It's very tasty. Would have added peppers (any colour but green.... What is the point of a green pepper?!), beetroot and maybe a boiled egg if I had them in. |

I love Turkish salad:
finely chopped red onion, cucumber, tomatoes, mint, parsley, bulgar wheat, squeezed lemon, salt, pepper, EV olive oil and chickpeas if you need to add protein
I have it with hummus, avocado, toasted ciabatta and other salads such as roasted macadamia nuts +sweet potatoes (cubed) with spinach, or new potato +rocket salad...
Oooooo or roasted nectarine/peach, fennel, orange +rocket salad

I think the only part not for me would be tge haddock. The rest sounds great!
I love a good salad and getting creative with the fillings. Start with salad leaves of your choosing, cherry tomatoes, cucumber then add things such as mixed beans, walnuts, pine nuts, sauerkraut, houmous, couscous, olives, cheese, apple, apricots, beetroot, gherkins, pickled eggs, lentils, potato salad, maybe even some pasta or noodles. Then a really good dressing! I like citrusy ones. Yummy! |

My normal salad would be:
Cajun Chicken strips or Salmon
1 Avocado, diced
Celery
Cucumber
Tomato
Spinach, Watercress and Rocket
Chia Seeds
Pumkin Seeds
Olives
Nutional Yeast
Sourkraut
Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Juice of 1 lime

Some really delicious ideas here - thanks! My German friend used to sprinkle her lettuce with sugar and lemon juice - it’s a really good dressing actually, although I wouldn’t have thought to use that combination. |

Should substitute haddock for mackerel cos that's what it was

I like a salad but it has to have everything in it, except lettuce.
I like potato salad, coleslaw, mini tomatoes, cut up celery, spring onions, boiled egg (cold, not still warm), cucumber, grated carrot, maybe some tuna, chicken or ham, and alas cream. Maybe some crunchy bits if I’m going wild. |
