RIP Nikki 
The 38 year old Big brother star has died after losing her battle with anorexia.
Its just so said that her friends had to try to raise money for her to treatment she desperately needed.  |

I don't think I've heard of her but really sad to hear what she was going through. Although body dysmorphia and acceptance is talked about more, it's almost become a meme and we can forget that this can be the outcome for those who suffer |

From what iv read she went into a specialist clinic last month as no other treatments had worked for her. |

It makes you wonder how pathological and self-destructive the desire for fame is. She was clearly unbalanced on the show 15 years ago. Entertainingly so but still, the glare of the spotlight is unforgiving for those with body image issues. |

She was first treated for an eating disorder when she was 7 and didn't appear on big brother until she was 20. |

That's kind of my point. Doesn't say much for the producers' discharge of their duty of care. She had underlying psychiatric problems and was seeking validation in publicity when treatment may have been more appropriate.
Fame is a Faustian pact of course and she's hardly the first person to have sought fame as a response to (or symptom of) mental illness but before reality TV/social media, talent was more of a prerequisite for exposure. Without that to fall back on it's no wonder so many reality TV stars hit a downward spiral. |

There are lots of contributive factors as to why somebody has an eating disorder or mental health condition.
I don't think simply because somebody struggles with either of these things should exclude them from entering a reality/talent show or being in the public eye. |

Oh no, this is really sad... She was one of my all time favourites on BB and I really loved her and Pete together. I remember reading about her battle with anorexia from an early age back when she first became famous; I was so shocked and saddened to see how bad it had gotten when I saw her photos on the GFM page her friends set up for her recently. I was really hoping things would end well for her. RIP x |
