Firefighter - eyesight.
I remember the careers advisor not beating around the Bush about it either. She just laughed and said ‘no chance if you’re wearing glasses’.
I’d seen The Towering Inferno and wanted to be Steve McQueen badly
My other was a Soldier as I just wanted to be ‘cannon fodder’ they happily accepted me. |

"I really wanted to be a brain surgeon Took rocket science instead, much easier. "
Reminds me of the Mitchell and Webb sketch.
"Brain surgery? Not exactly rocket science is it"

"An Apache helicopter pilot.
What stopped me? The Army at the time didn’t have them, nor did it look like they were going to be getting them. Oh and my eye sight is a bit buggered "
I had the same issue with eyesight.
I wanted to join the Army Air Corp as a winchmen/doorgunner on Chinooks and the like |

"I wanted to be a children's author.
I got too nerdy and into factual stuff
You could still do that, just write non-fiction for children?"
Yes, it's certainly possible. I can absolutely write - there's lots of directions to take that. Which I have. |

After that an architect but I kind of fell into engineering because my neighbour was one and he seemed to be very wealthy. Not sure what went wrong... |

Same kinda thing happened with my uncle with playing football for Englland in the 70's/80's
He was actually mentioned in an article i think in the Daily Mail about top ten players that should of played for England but didnt. Reason given was pretty much "he partied to much" from the stories i have heard i dont doubt it at all haha |

For any professional sport there are millions that want play for national team so the chances are slim even when you are really good! It's so hard for teenagers to sit at home when all their pals out partying... Its some sacrifice to make.. In my 40s now I would do anything to play for ireland!! |
