As regards close family, I don't really care what they think of my choices, but try and choose my path so that those choices are likely to cause them the least concern, worry or embarrassment.
As regards friends, it matters that they value my friendship and we have a mutual respect for each other at all times if not agreement, so yes, it would bother me what they think as long as they were justified to a degree.
As regards work colleagues, couldn't really be that bothered. It's nice to get along though not essential. I do my best not to bring either myself, my colleagues or my company into professional disrepute.
AS regards acquaintances, strangers or just the man on the street, couldn't honestly give a toss what they make of me. |

I am very sensitive to other people's opinions of me. May be I am too fragile for my own good sometimes. I've tried to toughen up and take it with a pinch of salt but some of the remarks can be hurtful and I find it hard to not shrink back into my shell......... so think on you bitter cunts! |

Well it depends on how you'd like to be remembered. Whether it's passing comments, social references or in memory after you leave a place or after your death.
So if you don't mind being misunderstood and can't be bothered to explain your character then you don't care what people think. But remember, that's not necessarily the other person's fault. |

By the thread title, it would suggest that the OP considers that those who care what others think of them are shallow. If that's the case, I'm as shallow as they come and not scared to admit it. Of course I care what others think of me. I work in a very creative field and therefore what I make and the way I do it has to be liked as I mainly get work through a word of mouth, recommendation basis. So I really care what my clients think of me. I work to pay for a way of life that suits me and my son, and I absolutely care about what he thinks of me. I grew up with a father absent from my life and I would hate if my son were to ever say in the future that I wasn't there for him. And on here. Of course I care what people think of me, otherwise I wouldn't spend time on my profile etc. |
