Sorry it was a bad connection
Jump to: Newest in thread
I've just read that the best way to hang up on someone if you don't want to appear rude is to switch your phone to aeroplane mode. This will indicate connection has been lost rather than you've hung up.
Would you use it to be rid of a caller without hurting their feelings?
Or, Would you just hang up?
Or blatantly say bye...don't want to speak to you..ain't got time for you?

"I just say I have to go.
I have heard "sorry, gotta go, cat's on fire" (best used if you don't have a cat). People will be so confused that the hurt is reduced by the "the fuck did she just say?""

"I just don’t answer the phone!
Problem solved
But what if you don't know who's calling until you've answered? "
If I don't recognise the number, I figure if they really want to speak to me, they'll leave a message and I can choose to call them back or not..... |

If I’m keen to get off the phone to someone I know, I just say ‘well listen, it’s been lovely I don’t want to keep you...’ I think that’s a universal way of letting someone down gently.
If it’s someone I don’t know/cold call I just ask them to take my number off the database and wish them best of luck in their next call |

I used to say, "I'll just out you on to the man of the house" and I'd hand the phone to my kid...
Was fun from about 9 months old till about 3 year old. Not the same after that |

"I rarely answer my phone, but if I do I say I have to go there’s someone at the door and put the phone down. Or I say now isn’t a good time. And put the phone down. "
Ah! The old someone's at the door |

I'm on the phone a lot and yes, sometimes i may not want to talk to them at that moment, but i may want them at some point - so I'm always polite.
Listen to others as you would like to listened to. |

I’ve done this on a few occasions. Although it’s probably easier to make an excuse that you have to go and do something |

My phones permanently on silent so I often miss calls I’m happy to take. If I’m busy or not feeling great I’ll just say so and get back to them at a later date. I’m not a great chatter so people who know me are used to it. |

I might answer a “no caller ID”, just because the doctor’s surgery and some other important calls come from withheld numbers - but if it turns out to be a cold caller I get rid very quickly. Actual numbers I don’t know, I don’t answer and wait to see if they leave a message. If it’s legit I’ll call back with an excuse about not getting to the phone in time. |

Sales calls are answered with ‘no thank you’ and I cut them off, no discussion there. I don’t give out my number so I’m always shocked when I get calls.
Any other calls - I just stick with it. I can’t just go or hang up |
