Newry Down

The principal activity that I have undertaken every day, for the past year, is to go 'bathing' in my local forest.

In addition to hours of walking I have several secluded posts where I can sit undisturbed, relax, gather my thoughts, breath in the fresh air, listen to birds song, draw up plans for my post-pandemic life, savour my successes, analyse my failures, and the return home refreshed and reinvigorated.

The Japanese have long been aware of the benefits of Shinrin Yoku-forest bathing.

I would thoroughly recommend it; what activity has helped you to survive this current crisis?

Love wild swimming, don’t do Yoga or Tai chi anymore but qigong and the five Tibetans are great for energy, clarity and focus after a sunrise swim

Gardening or trying to at least. I'm not good at it but it drains my time and feels good. Until everything dies.

Making music. I’ve gone ambient and it really helps.

I love just finding a spot in the local woods and sitting down with my book. Or just lying on my back looking up at the sky through the trees.

One of my favourite spots you will often see some deer just quietly going about their business.
