Who here has had an experience with a Tarot reading?
Was it a good or bad experience?
I’m just started my journey with reading the Tarot and found it truly amazing.

I've had quite a few in the past. It kind of depends on whats happening in your life at the time on whether it's a good experience or not. They can either get it spot on or be completely off but I do believe most of it is reading energy rather than cards  |

I tend to work use of things that have valid scientific research evidence that supports them. There's a lack of good evidence supporting psychic etc abilities, including Tarot, as far as I am aware. |

If it's wrong it's not the card or the readers fault but if it's right it's down to the reader and the cards...

In my life and career I work with Facts and evidence to make conclusions so I hear you but there has been too many coincidences for me with reading the Tarot. I feel that if mankind hasn’t got the tools yet to prove it but I do feel there is something in it.
For me it has certainly enlighten my life but of course I’m always questioning the art as that’s my nature.

I've had them and I do them occasionally.
I often get told I have the gift and should consider taking up clairvoyance or something similar. I just keep dabbling when the mood takes me or I get multiple signs from spirit. |

Tarot cards as far as I'm concerned and in my experience are a great tool for concentrating on matters that are in your mind and giving you different ways of thinking about them more deeply. The cannot predict your future but they can make you consider your past and present in a way that might help you change how your future works out. What you see in Tarot cards comes from within yourself. |

No problem. There are loads of tarot readers on YouTube. They can be good to listen to, not necessarily for the actual readings, but to hear how others interpret and read, especially if you're just starting out. Good luck on your journey |

I have been reading cards etc for many years, I was brought up with them as my parents used to (I am also pagan). I currently have about 25 different decks but always use the Robin Wood deck. I inherited both parents sets of cards. Feel free to message if you need anything.
Sometimes someone goes through several different decks before settling on one. |

I am very fact focused, so for me Tarot is in the same category as scams and potentially scaremongering.
My advice would be to chose a different hobby. |

So I messaged asking if I could have a reading as I had been struggling to make a decision.
Cheekychap sent me my reading yesterday and here is the result of the cards and a short meaning (my result was a much longer reading)
Past - 10 of Wands - Heavy burdens during the past period that I have taken on. Good news though as 10 shows the completion and soon will be released from burden. This is very true for my situation.
Present - Ace of Wands - New opportunities, growth of a new project, particularly spiritual. Paves the way for me to change things I was uncertain about.
Future - 9 of Pentacles - Enjoy fruits of labour, long term financial independence, able to enjoy some luxury. Lovely to know as last year finances were lower.
I was very pleased by this reading - it was very cohesive and has helped me to put my choices in perspective.
Thank you for taking the time to read for me.

I've had a few readings and most have been very accurate so far regarding things that have happened.
Had one recently and it was more about my future, so I'm a bit sceptical.
They have helped me refocus on my life especially work.

I started my journey properly with tarot cards a month or so ago, I read for myself daily to practice, I am totally amazed how insightful the cards are.
For me they are a tool to help me receive guidance.
As I see it they can give advice on potential situations, outcomes and give support and fresh perspectives.

The way I see it they can give you a snapshot of your life now and maybe help you look at it in ways you haven't.
Plus they can show what contributed to your current situation and advice regarding it.
The future (to me) depends on the person, and what advice, guidance and choices they make.
I don't feel that I could use the cards to try and tell the future, plus it doesn't feel ethical to me to try to use them like that.
Each person probably has their own way and ethics, plus I am relatively new to reading cards so my use can only apply to how I feel and read.

I do have a set, but I haven't touched them for over 30 years.
I've always been an evidence-based thinker, and I used them not a tool for divination (which I don't believe in at all) but as more of a "these are other possibilities that need consideration".
I since developed my own critical thinking over the years and eventually found I did not need the cards anymore.
I also got fed up with being asked to "read someone's future" once word got out I used them.
A friend does use them as part of their mentalism act. They are very clear with folks that they are an entertainer, and a magician. They're also a mentalist and cold-reader. Yet folks do believe they have a "gift".
My friend credits their success with the cards because they are skilled in reading and leading people, able to interpret and present information quickly on the fly, and persuasive and genuine in their act. The biggest factor though according to my friend, is that people want to believe, and that makes my friends life a lot easier. What really gets my friend's goat is when it's presented as real truth and my friend does seek out and expose some charlatans who fleece others for gain.
Personally, to me they are a tool for considering possibilities you may have not thought of previously.

I agree with much of what you've said. Tarot cards are a tool to help you, they can't predict your future, they can't know your past or present, they're not sentient. They can give you focus as I said above and help you consider things in ways you previously might not have done.
I studied tarot in a small group with a teacher and it became clear to me then that people will fit what you say to their circumstances and ignore huge inaccuracies or pass them off with an excuse.
I do believe that there are very rare people who have abilities we don't yet understand but they aren't on the telly or doing the end of the pier stint in a tent. |

I believe that with practice and training, one can develop one's powers of observation, intuition and human psychology to a sufficient enough degree that to the average lay person, said powers would appear "miraculous" and perhaps derived from "a higher power".
Coupled with a "tool of divination" enshrouded in myth and legend in public consciousness, and it's not difficult to present a compelling performance that those who want to believe will readily accept.
People will always fit something to their own narrative, because humans are pattern-seeking and matching creatures. We evolved as such as part of our environment and it's an ingrained survival technique.
We seek order in chaos.
We seek rationale in an absurd universe.
Why ? Because accepting that the universe is cold, uncaring and neutral is frankly terrifying for some.

You could use a pack of playing cards and invent some rules for "reading" those. You will have just as many coincidences. Confirmation bias has a lot to answer for. |

Thanks for everyone who explained better to me.
I've listened to alot of podcasts over lockdown and one series featured the occult and tarot cards came up 3/10. Had a Google about them as to where they came from and how they became to be used in the ways they are today. It was good hearing your your views amd experiences |

You could use a pack of playing cards and invent some rules for "reading" those. You will have just as many coincidences. Confirmation bias has a lot to answer for."

About 25 years a woman that worked for my mum went and some sort of reading and was told her new husband wouldn't be with her for long.
She was devastated as she thought he was going to have an affair.
A month 6 weeks later he was killed in an industrial accident.
What made it worse for her was for most of that time she had been treating him as if he was having an affair, so wasted that time together. |
