So my waaaayy overdue check up at the breast clinic was last week...I've just had a lovely, lengthy chat with my oncologist about my results and treatment plan.
I'm still in remission...yay! But the amount of cancer cells I have present has increased and so I will be having some hormonal treatment to help with that.
Also a lymph node biopsy to check there's no spreading.
A much better result than I was expecting tbh, and by the sounds of it, some relatively simple and non invasive treatment.
I'll probably always have breast cancer. But I am in remission and we've been managing it for a couple of years now so hopefully that can continue!
Nervous but feeling positive.
I know I nag all the time....but please check your boobies and attend breast screenings...early detection is key!

Thank you all
The support I've had from the forums over the years has helped so much! I appreciate it more than I can say!
I've never told my family how sick I've been in the past so as not to worry them and so only had a very small number of people in my real world know and able to support.
This little community has been a real life line for me at times.
Some of you have been with me in this journey for almost 10 years now...supporting me, wishing me luck, giving advice, sending love.
Thank you.

"Wonderful news babes!!!!!!
Can I ask, ladies how old were you when you got called for your 1st mammogram??
Xx"
I think most women start having their routine checks around 40...i could be wrong.
My first pre-cancerous cyst was removed at 17...
I was diagnosed with breast cancer in my early 20s so I have routine mammograms now.
Anyone can ask for a breast check tho!

I was just thinking about you yesterday and wondering if you had heard back yet.
So happy for you. As you say you will always need to be vigilant but hopefully it puts your mind at ease a little |

Reading this I’ve checked mine
Though I do tend to think that doctors won’t take me seriously if I did have worries. A few years ago I noticed I had discharge from my nipple so made an emergency appointment and got told off for wasting an appointment. Was really disheartening and didn’t actually do anything to put my mind to rest.
Thanks for sharing OP and good luck xx |

Totally relate to this!
My initial diagnosis was later than it should've been thanks to a lazy GP who told me I was too young to worry when I asked for an exam...even tho I'd already had a cystectomy! 5 months after that doctor laughed me out of the surgery I was diagnosed and promptly started chemo. I am lucky to be here.
Always push for tests if you feel you need them. You know your body better than anyone. Ask to see another doctor. Don't accept it.
Thank you |

So pleased for you, and thanks for the reminder to check. My mum recovered from breast cancer but it was still a huge shock and a very anxious time. All the best! X |

That is very good news for you OP, keep smiling and hope all continues to be positive for you... I think Breast screening should be done as early as smears are...not until your over the age of 52+ or if some thing suspicious is found....after all it only takes a few minutes to check for lumps by a Professional Nurse. |

I’ve had the opposite reaction.
In my early 30’s I found what I thought was a lump, went to GP who said she wasn’t worried but would refer me to be on the safe side. Was seen in hospital within 2/4 weeks and everything fine.
Mid 40’s had discharge from nipple, again GP refered me straight away and I was again seen in hospital within 2/4 weeks.
I do have what I consider amazing GPs in my local surgery though, nothing too much trouble.
Glad you got better news than you were expecting though, must be such a relief!! Xxx |

That is such good news!
Best wishes for your procedures.
And yes...thanks for sharing and bringing it to the forefront. I'm painfully aware of how important early diagnosis is with cancer.
We should all be on top of our checks x |
