Easter Monday in Slovakia
Jump to: Newest in thread
Just thought I would put it out here for all of you happy British women who go on about their day today eating their bodyweight in chocolate.
On Easter Monday morning Slovak women get splashed with ice cold water, sprayed with a cheap cologne and whipped with a whip braided from willow by basically all males they know (family members/friends/neighbours/schoolmates).
They are then expected to feed them, give them shots of spirit, money, eggs and put a colourful ribbon on the end of their whip, before sending them off to their next victim.
This is apparently to keep us young, beautiful and healthy, but I'm pretty sure it was a man who came up with this BS as I don't know any woman that enjoys being soaking wet (and freezing) 10+ times a day and smelling like a cheap whore. Not mentioning the wet walls and flooring that you have to clean up every time before you change to dry clothes
Thank you for coming to my TED talk, enjoy the chocolate

"We have the same tradition.
What is it called in Slovakian?
I don't think it has a special name. Maybe "oblievacka a šibacka" which just mean splashing and whipping.

It's smingus dyngus ! the name always cracks me up. Makes no sense. |

"I’ve got the braided willow stick just for today
štastnú velkú noc "
Štastnú Velkú noc to you too where did you get your whip from? It is very happy Easter Monday for me as I'm hundreds of miles away from Slovakia and I'm dating an English man I still took this opportunity to make schnitzels and potato salad though

I’ve had it a while now. My boys mum is Slovak so I’m aware of all the traditions. You Slovaks don’t need any excuse for the potato salads, you make it for everything |

Don't give LvM ideas, we don't need to keep this tradition alive potato salad is great. I normally don't eat mayo, but this is a very delicious exception.

"Easter eggs are overrated, that sounds like more fun (for a man)

You can only do it until 12am and considering it's almost noon I think I'm safe

As I found out today Poland has the same tradition and they even have a cool name for it so you have options to choose from

Sounds horrendous Mrs OP, I'd be satisfied with just introducing an ice cube to those lovely nipples of yours... A lot less bother an cleaning but so much more rewarding (well, for me anyway) |

"Some things, like this awful sounding tradition should be left alone in the history books and not perpetuated in this day. "
Awful?? Really?
There are really awful things happening in the current world today. Splashing water on Slovak women isn’t one of them |

Yes there are loads of things going on far worse i agree every day all around us.
The whole tradition the OP described sounds very out of date and just belittling to women and belongs in the past in my opinion. |
