In local Essex parks the Rangers have taken away bins to encourage visitors to take home their litter...

I just prefer more bins...

Thoughts ?

I'd say that's just the excuse to make some savings for emptying the bins

If there are no security concerns, I’d put bins there.

surrounded by twinkly lights

The forest has done that as the ponies empty the bins, now it's just strewn anywhere

Seagulls empty the bins round here. People leave litter whether there are bins or not. It's awful to see the amount of rubbish left on our beaches especially near the fast food outlets.

People don’t take their rubbish though. They’re lazy and struggle to carry it to a bin of there are bins, let alone take it home!

Exactly. We often see rubbish next to the flaming bin .

There's one place where fir some reason people don't litter, even if the bins full they leave it neatly next to it. I can't fathom out why that place is different.

It's like dog poo bins, if there are non then people just hang the poop bag in a tree like a shit Christmas decoration.

Remove bins from the park?

let's just chuck the rubbish where the bin used to be.

Unless it's accompanied by a massive public relations and education campaign, including increased enforcement and fines, you can safely conclude that it's just a poorly disguised cost saving exercise!

Brighton - even Hove!

National Trust properties don’t have bins and there’s never much litter.

Perhaps that says a lot about their members. Salt of the earth

I wish we lived in a world where people weren't so lazy but it's never going to happen.

I think they'll have more work on their hands when they see all the litter building up.

Except along the A27 Brighton bypass with literally mile after mile of litter and rubbish and mattresses by the side of the road. It’s disgusting. No one cleans it up - not in the past 2 years anyway.

The Rangers are there to protect people from bears, not monitor bins. Bears are evil buggers so praise to the Essex Rangers for their sterling efforts. Not one bear attack in Essex this season so far

Nah it'll be someone's spark of an idea to save a few quid at the council, only to create more expenditure when they have to send in the clean up crew to pick it all up of the ground instead of just out of the bins

Or they have people going round picking it up. They're certainly not all as you describe.

Its so sad, the roads here in the Lake District are exactly the same.

Well to be fair they are trying to help. If the bins are full then they leave it on the floor next to the bin ..

That's because members like wot we are, are way too posh to take our picnic in anything but a wicker hamper. The odd champagne cork might shoot off into the bushes but a flunkey can soon be despatched to fetch that

Agree.

Government needs to do more to make industry reduce packages. Some packaging is where industry makes the bigger profits too

People also need to consider changing what they buy in relation to packaging.

but even when there are bins people don't use them.

in my area; bin at the bus stop, trash (food wrapping) left on the bus stop bench, not in the bin less than a foot from the rubbish.

I agree there should be a new or renewed national campaign.

(yes i'm a grumpy old woman; this is a major pet peeve of mine)
