Middlesbrough!!!!
Jump to: Newest in thread
Has yet again been dragged down to gutter levels.
After "extensive" research and information gathering it seems that Middlesbrough has topped the list of 10 places "no one in the right mind with an ounce of self respect" would visit.
Come on my fellow Middlesbrough dwelling fabsters. Say something good about our town!
For starters. The steel and manufacture of the San Francisco Golden Gate bridge the Sydney harbour bridge was produced here!! |

"I don't know where it is
Is it a Northern place?
Surely the name Middles Borough means it's in the centre
Noooooo, not "Borough" its pronounced "Middlesbrough" "
Or "The Boro"
I can think of worse places |

"Or the suspended boat in the Cleveland centre. Used to view it as a kid from the glass lift"
They had that reassembled on the Cleveland Centre floor over Christmas.
Some great memories to see that again. ![](/icons/s/biggrin.gif) |

"I quite like Portrack Lane, Stockton but that's not Middlesbrough.
So I'll say parmo. "
Your not a far cry short of Middlesbrough there to be honest. As close as you can get without being in the boro |

Ayersome Park.
Old boro ground literally bang in the middle of an entire row of houses.
Lord knows what the noise sounded like on Ayersome Street cos we lived 8 streets away and the Holgate end was deafening from there |

"Boro 4 v basel 3
Boro 4 v steaua Bucharest 3
Two of the greatest comebacks since lazerus. So said the great ally brownlee "
Oh god yes.
That commentary is legendary.
Best thing ever heard on a match win. |

"Lower Yarm...Thornaby "
A lad I used to know from there called it "the big F" because he thought it was "Fornaby" even though he lived there
The rest of my mates from other parts of Boro called it Thornabronx ![](/icons/s/mrgreen.gif) |

"Wasn't the city in Blade Runner based on Middlesborough?"
True! Ridley Scott came from the area, and based the skyline on the chemical works. All the steam, rain and lights at night. So attractive ![](/icons/s/mrgreen.gif) |

"In 1801 middlesborough was a farm and home to 25 people
That's the year 1801 not 1 minute past 6
Now that's interesting. I didn't know that. "
From Middlesbrough council site:
"In 1801, Middlesbrough was a farm with only around 25 people living there. In 1829, Joseph Pease, a Quaker man from Darlington, bought the farm and created the 'Port of Darlington'. Workers were needed for the port, so Pease started to think about building a town." |

It's not Middlesborough, it's Middlesbrough."
I know, but it was good for a laugh. I quite like Middlesbrough and was originally from Redcar.

Mydilsburgh’ is the earliest recorded form of Middlesbrough’s name and dates to Saxon times. ‘Burgh’ refers to an ancient settlement, or perhaps a fort of pre-Saxon origin which may have been situated on slightly elevated land close to the Tees. ‘Mydil’ was either the name of an Anglo-Saxon or a reference to Middlesbrough’s middle location, half way between the Christian centres of Durham and Whitby. |

My daughter is at uni there. She hasn’t gotten out much due to covid. But I will make a couple of work visits up there to see her in the next couple of years!
I’m sure it can’t be that bad ![](/icons/s/biggrin.gif) |

"But more the point cause the area has some decent people "
Indeed the native Middlesbrough folk are hard working salt of the earth.
the hard work is reflected in its industrial past, ironically it's this backdrop that gives it it's less than attractive petsona |
