About my sexuality the other day for the first time ever!

My landlord was filling out the census (yes to all of you who told me I was awful for not doing so the other day...never had to do so personally ) and obviously needed some info.

He's very religious and I'm pretty certain he's a tad homophobic (I assume this because I know his American wife is a trump supporting homophobe). He's always been good and kind to me and we've never had any issues.

But he read the question, laughed and said "well we know you're straight", I guess because he knows I have J.

And I didn't correct him.

I feel icky.

It's the only time I've ever felt the need to hide it and it wasn't a good feeling.

Have you ever lied about your sexuality? If so, why?

Lu

God will strike you down. Or, your landlord will be gutted as he thought he was in there

Well I don't believe in God.

And my landlord is definitely not a worry on that front.

"Yeah. Religious family. Not worth it."

That's what I figured...was he not my landlord, I'd have corrected him.

Had I corrected him and discovered he was super homophobic I mightve found myself homeless. Wasn't worth the risk.

I've been asked several times if I'm bi sexual. Always said I'm straight. I'm more comfortable people knowing I'm a soccer mom

See, I've never felt that. I've always been really open about my sexuality. It felt icky to lie about it for me. Didn't sit well

I've never lied about my sexuality. Being straight I've never been put in the position of feeling I had to. Hopefully one day nobody will have to lie about it

Having an extremely religious extended family who are very lets just say old fashioned in their views, ive lied for years that its just became a thing and i hide it from alot of people now.

I agree with the whole not feeling right because of it but at the end of the day its not for them to know unless I want them to.

I've never lied about it as I've never been asked outright about it.

I would have to lie about it as some people very close to me just wouldn't accept it.

If you wanted to there is a way that you can request an individual code that lets you put in some details privately, not able to be seen by the person who fills in your household generally.

It’s specifically designed for people who are unable to be open to the person filling in the census for the household, but would like to have an accurate record.
