It must be fantastic to be able to pick up a guitar and play it well.

To play any instrument come to that must be fantastic.

Wish I had stuck in harder at piano lessons.

My son has been learning to play guitar online.

I've learnt to block him out.

He says I'll be sorry when he's famous and they ask who supported him

The best is when he asks me to name the tune he's playing!

Bless him

Used to play guitar as a teenager, mostly acoustic stuff in the vein of Cat Stevens and Simon and Garfunkel. I've not picked one up in decades so I'm probably terrible now.

Another guitar nut here, although I tend to play acoustic more than electric these days.

A guitar is always within hands reach in my house.

When you use bar chords remember to stick your fret hand elbow OUT and AWAY from your ribs....

Surprising the dofference that will make.

I run a regular music and movement session for children and young people with autism and additional needs so the guitar comes out to play there.

He's a bloody good musician, studying music & music production at uni. He gigs (in normal times), writes and sells beats and writes/records/produces his own stuff plus stuff for his friends etc. He works across most genres but is a metalhead at heart. I use classical. I'm self taught. But worked through the Tune a day series to acquire reading skills.

Most guitar players find their own style and it's more than enough for an impromptu performance or campfire singalong.

If you're a beginner buy a reasonably good and well set up guitar. It makes playing achievable and enjoyable.

After years of getting nowhere , picking it up putting down , it was driving me crazy .. All I ever wanted to be was “ The worlds greatest rock n roll star ! “

And then she dumped me , cheated with another man , throw all my stuff onto the pavement , told me to never come back ! . I cut a sorry figure as I trudged up the road back to my crumby flat . I grabbed a bottle of whiskey from the store and sat down to drink , just me and my broken heart .

I hit a u tube channel and as if by magic a name I’d never heard before flashed before my eyes ..Fred Macdowell..

It was an epiphany!! .. That’s how you play guitar ... you slide the thing ..next stop , Shane Speal , he got a set of wire cutters and literally just cut 3 strings out and tuned to GDG .. it all became much clearer .. The lord shone his light .. White boy had the blues .

Half a bottle of whiskey later and I had played my first Deep South blues grind .

2 and a bit years later I’ve just bought a lovely old Resonator , and I’m having the best fun .. and I still don’t even know which one is the B string !!

If your struggling with a whole heap of fancy pant chord changes .. slide it .. make some noise ..

Well I'm an accomplished pianist with a music degree (see our video for a modest example), so musical thinking and practice regime is built into me. I'm currently in a place where I can't have a piano so I've been playing my guitars a lot instead. I know where I'm trying to get to and largely how I'm going to get there and I think it's achievable.

Impressive, although, Chris Cornell and Bono aren’t exactly my favourite people

I've never really met Bono so couldn't say. He kept in his own little world. The others, especially Larry were always nice enough to me.

I knew Chris in the very early days. Before it was called 'grunge' lol and he was great. Got on fine with him. Petrified of flying though so we gave him a wide berth on 'airport' days haha "

I’m more on the rock and punk vibe. Played some great places, met a lot of great bands too

"Me. I've played guitar since I was 8. Professionally since I was 17 and have only ever worked in the music industry.

Nice done anything exciting

Yes. I've had the good fortune to tour the world many times getting to meet and play for wonderful people in wonderful countries. Wouldn't swap it for everything.

Don't get me wrong. I still have all the paperwork and stuff like that everyone else deals with. But seeing as though you spend a huge chunk of your adult life working might as well get paid to do your hobby.

What have you done. Fill me in with the crazy world you live in. I’ve supported some great bands

I've played in a few bands in my late teens and early 20's. I've also worked as a sound engineer with many, many acts most famous being Guns n Roses, U2, Soundgarden, Radiohead, James to name drop a few.

Love it. Wouldn't swap it for anything.

Mr here. I've recently bought an acoustic, and been teaching myself through YouTube. I love it.

At the stage now where I can play a tune and have a sing along, so satisfying. Still can't master bar chords though , but I'll keep trying.

How long you been playing now? Been thinking about giving it a go myself in between drumming

Maybe about 6 months, lockdown has given me loads of time to practise. It's therapeutic but also really great fun, one of the best things I ever done.

I've never been musically minded, but am absolutely loving it.

Oh I’m too impatient. At 12 I played my friends drum kit for the first time, within 15 mins I was playing 4-4 beat so I carried on. I’m not good at doing things I suck at and seeing no swift progression

Barre chords are done via a change of hand positioning and sone increase finger strength. Just keep plugging away at it and eventually you get the strength to hold the strings down. Exercises help accelerate it (spiders/hammers etc)
