Some talented painters and some not..
Love it when these clowns buy to invest but it's worthless claptrack.. worse even than the fashion Industry..
Bed time for me now..

So if you've studied art history you'd know once a artist is no longer around that price will explode if from a popular Artist.
16 million today. God knows what in the future. |

But I cannot abide his work. It's not art, it's graffiti.

In the papers the other year, yes. Still not a fan x"
Fan or not, it’s not graffiti. He’s making a point on the state of the way most of us are forced live in societies that don’t work for the majority |

what he does reflect society, largely in areas we don't want to look at. its a caption in time really.
the best one he done was the one that shredded itself as soon as sale was complete.....that's just funny! |

I am not an art expert, but at least Banksy's pictures look like what they're supposed to be, not like that awful impressionism. However, I don't think Banksy's work is any better than many commercial artists, I think it's just his mystery and "urban" stuff that puts him a little above. |

I once peed on a Banksy in the northern quarter in Manchester when I was very d*unk and busting and nipped down an alleyway, and it just happened to be there, this was just before his "Wall and Piece" book took off and made him a household name
I do like his art, but it's baffling how it fetches so much money! |

"we went o an exhibition once where one of the pieces was a jar of pasta letters. I don't pretend to understand what it meant and I wouldn't have bought it. I would consider buying a Banksy though"
I watched a programme last night about the performance artist Marina Abramovic, I found it eye opening as to what constitutes art.
That said, I like some of Banksy’s artwork, I like the stencilling and it’s usually simple and punchy.

"Banksy's work is fantastic.

Really? It's stencilled spray paint on a wall isn't it? "
Ultimately yes but it's the subjects and the way the pieces popped up that make it more than that.
I remember seeing his rats stencilled in the city I was living in in the late 90's. Had no idea who Banksy was then. But it was different to most pieces in terms of the medium and the message, and it stood out as a result.
The Banksy brand has become very lucrative for him, 99% of others would do the same as in his shoes.
the rumour is it its 3D from Bristol. |

If you’ve studied art and art history as you claim, at least in any sort of depth beyond GCSE level, then you will have learned to observe objectively and critically, rather than subjectively.
Art is a representative endeavour and works when it speaks to people in a way that goes past the medium used.
Banksy captures a melancholy and distopic air, coupled with a dark sense of humour and undermines both society and art establishments. Hence using graffiti and his works being in public spaces.
I think that he’s brilliant.
You don’t like him, that’s cool. That’s the fun part about art, it elicits reactions |

If I was rich Banksy 'art' is not something I would choose to spend my money on.
Any artist that has been deemed 'designer' including brands that sell clothing, accessories and cosmetics for thousands of pounds wouldn't get my money.
I agree with Tom it's a mugs game.
Anyone that spends ludicrous amounts of money on stuff think it makes a statement about them.
It does make a statement - they've got too much much money to burn and they've been taken for a ride.

Let's set the record straight. His work is easy on the eye and I like it. The chimps in Parliament made me smile. I might hang a copy on my wall if it cost a score..
But millions for some of it is someone having a giraffe. Let's not forget that the geezer is alive and might even be on fam. If he is, then I apologize if I offended your work mate. |

It's a much better way of holding value than keeping money in the bank. Stuff like that just appreciates in value relative to currency all the time. So even if you weren't bothered about the work it would be a shrewd investment |

If I had the money I'd sooner own a Banksy than a Bugatti!
Damien Hirst pieces do absolutely nothing for me, likewise for tracy Emmin's bed..... Banksy's works move me and make me think and I love the guerilla nature of his public art.

If you want overpriced art to be upset about, we can recommend Derek Jarmans old house and garden (beach shack) at Dungeness. I mean there's bits and pieces there, but it's tiny, and a total of something like £2 million is being raised to preserve it.
We were very confused. |

Exactly right, he is an opinionated artist. Not sure what the relevance of his chosen medium is? Or why it's a bad thing for artists to have socio political views?
The fact that you "just don't get it" is more of a reflection on your critical thinking skills than on his art.

The same could be said for paying stupid prices for a lettuce leaf and a shrimp that some posh chef made. Or paying stupid money for clothes that don't have an Asda label in them.

As an uneducated art lover some of the street art around Bristol is cool and the whole Banksy thing is clever... But i dont get paying millions for a stencilled drawing... But hey art has always been subjective and the more people want they more they willing pay |
