In this thread we will doff our hats Metaphorically speaking of course to all the things that need doffing.
First doff goes to the inventor of cats eyes, without him how would we know where the middle of the road is when it’s dark, thank you sir.
John Logie Television for inventing the beard, without him there would be no F&B and men would have cold chins.
The first person to invent ‘years’, so we can sell calendars, probably against incredible peer pressure. ‘This is my 24th Winter !’ ‘No one gives a fuck Philip just keep picking berries, while us women get the woolly mammoth in for tea!’
The Inventor of Minty shower gels for the tingly sensation on my plums, thank you sir/ madam.
The inventor of the teabag, so when you keep dunking it in your brew, you can yell ‘Tell me everything you know, where are the codes and who sent you!’ |

This is the sort of comment every thread not about sycophancy needs. It's so noble of you Sigma, well done for stepping up."
People don’t like to think Meli, I’ve accepted this in the lounge, but my threads are here for future generations to see, I know they won’t be appreciated in my lifetime. |

I'd like to nominate Dr Thomas Midgley Jr under the Darwin Awards catagory. 1921 - invented leaded petrol. 1921 through 1925 - illness through lead poisoning from his work in inventing and promoting leaded petrol. In the years since, up to the banning of leaded petrol in most countries during the 1980's, responsible for premature death of millions due to lead poisoning.
Late 1920's through 1930's - worked on development of new coolant gases for use in refrigeration, resulting in invention of CFC's. These subsequently widely used in aerosol sprays etc resulting in invention of the ozone hole and millions of skin cancer cases.
1944 - after becoming disabled due to polio, invented a hoist system to be able to lift himself out of bed. November 2nd 1944, got tangled in the ropes of the hoist system and died of strangulation.
So hats off to Dr Midgley, whose third great invention saved the world from any possibility of his fourth or fifth inventions... |

"I appreciated whoever invented bras. Quick Google says Herminie Cadolle. Without her scaffolding know how my knees would be perma-bruised from my boobs hitting them.
"
Some men wouldn’t be thanking her. |

I'd say Alexander Fleming helped us all out a great deal too. Although ironically, he (and all the other inventors who improved our chances of survival) contributed to the overpopulation of our planet too, which isn't necessarily a good thing. |

Bernie Winters
I remember Bernie Winters & his dog schnawbits.

Amazingly talented man."
Just a shame he had to murder his brother before he was noticed. |

I doff my cap to the Cyanide process. Invented around 1913 it's the process of extracting gold from mined ore. Apparently responsible for the exponential growth in international trade?
Admittedly this led to super powers and cataclysmic events, but omelettes, eggs and all that..... |

The guy who invented cats eyes was inspired by driving at night once and his headlights shone into the eyes of a cat and it gave him that wonderful idea.
If the cat had been facing the other way he'd have invented the pencil sharpener. |
