near death experience

Couple of weeks ago I had a pretty close call due to anaphylaxis. First time discovering that I'm allergic to something (still unknown). I also walked away from a 40mph side swipe when on a motorbike when I was 18.
Anyone else had any brushes with death? How did you feel in the weeks/months afterwards? |

I arrived at the hospital just in time as my throat was closing up after having anaphylactic shock 15 years ago still don’t know what caused it but avoid quite a few foods these days as they cause the itch in your throat ( if you know what I mean. Was frightening at the time |

That was pretty much me. I'm eating very little and drinking either water or milk |

"Snap.. I had an anaphylactic reaction to fish on holiday about 15 years ago and am only here because a doctor was treating a patient at a nearby hotel.. bloody terrifying. "
Oh wow! That's very lucky, especially when trying to find a doctor abroad.
Do you narrow it down to a type of fish? Or just play it safe and not have any? |

On the 31st March last year I went shopping and collapsed in my local B&M store.. woke up 6 weeks later in hospital no knowing where I was. I suffered a sudden cardiac arrest and was clinically dead for 27 minutes before the paramedics got me back. Spent 6 weeks in a coma in intensive care and been told by numerous doctors and specialist I’m a miracle to still be here. |

I was just told to avoid all fish.. I was actually a chef at the time and just touching fish sent my hands and arms into full on hives.. it was awful. |

That sounds quite the ordeal! Do you know what caused the cardiac arrest? One of my biggest fears is having to do CPR on someone (I'm fully trained). |

It's good to see that you made it - there are too few lovely ladies. My heart attack was much less dramatic and took place over several hours before friends called an ambulance because I was turning blue/grey. That was over 20 years ago and has led to me no longer getting stressed out by stupid things |

No I sold up several years ago and got out of the game thank god! Had some health issues to sort out and a new lease of life to enjoy rather than working myself to death  |

After months of tests it was due to my hemoglobin levels. They were sky high and killing-off the oxygen carrying cells to my heart.
I had to have a stent fitted in my heart due to the damage caused by the 3 defibrillator shocks I had.. cctv showed me up pushing my trolley and the next.. I just fell back and was gone with no pulse or heart beat. The store manager had to perform cpr on me until the paramedics arrived.. I was in such a bad way they couldn’t move me due 45 minutes as they kept losing me after each shock.. and then they got me back and I suffered a heart attack.
I’ve been left with a few issues but at least they never gave up on me... I watched 24 hrs in ER recently and gave up on a 50 yr old man after 10 minutes.. I was one of the lucky ones |

Playing on a cabinet when I was about 2. It toppled and the glass fell either side of me. My dad said the only reason I survived is because I froze. I'm not sure how much the story has been exaggerated over the years

I almost died when bacon rind got stuck in my throat (can't believe I had to reword this cause I'm not allowed to use a common word) when I was a kid, before I even really knew what death was. Scary AF. Almost died alone before my life started.
Since then, loads. Mostly self inflicted... |

It's good to see that you made it - there are too few lovely ladies. Pointless getting stressed out about stupid stuff. I learned that when I was younger through work. Glad you are stress free these days |

Parents always seem to spin the worst case scenario. It might not of been that bad but you need to remember it was your dad's perception of the event |

Walking home past some fields. I knew there was a farmer lamping (shooting rabbits). I heard the "crack" then a ricochet whipped right past my head.

No going to lie, had to search what edoxaban was. My grandad has something similar they gave him warfarin |

complications from a miscarriage landed me in a coma with sepsis and catastrophic blood loss.. that was scary.
i have many conditions which land me in hospital regularly.. but that was the one i was like 'oh sh!t'.

It was next to a main road between two towns, I didn't stick around. Ran the last couple of miles back home and had a very VERY large brandy. |

I've had a few driving and flying close calls, that could have easily gone either way. I was shot on the head once. I say on because the small calibre bullet bounced off my skull, but didn't penetrate. It makes you realise how fragile life really is. That said I have never been in a physical state, i.e. injured or ill, where I might have died. |

I mostly drowned as a kid before being fished out and waking up on a police station.
A few instances on the motorbike of people not looking properly too 
Oh and I nearly drowned again in a kayak

You have to always keep your weapon pointing down the rang after live firing, but the guy next to me stood up with the gun at his side and pointing in my direction. If he’d pulled the trigger my head would have left my shoulders  luckily a Corporal saw him and got hold of the weapon and directed it where it should have been.  "
Ditto except he was three guys away,mind you had he had an ND it was 7.62 so probably had gotten more than one of us..
The Rupert stood there mouth agog and the troop Sgt calmly stepped in and put the safety on, before taking it off him and moving him out of sight to have a word in his shell like.. |

Used to race motorbikes at a reasonable national level.
Broke my neck at Brands Hatch, snapped back of my C4 off.
Another fraction of mm and I’d have been on a machine rest of my life.
Still ride and do classic meetings but ‘carefully’... |

I blubbed to the consultant months later " I thought i was gonna die"
And he said " yeah, we thought you were gonna die too"
That didnt make me feel better. |

I wasn’t shot at as such ... but I have had bullets whizz past my head too close for comfort! I just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and it was the final straw in the decision to leave New York |

I was in a bad car accident just before my university finals. I was partway round a roundabout on Trafford Park in Manchester when a 40 ton foreign lorry pulled out and crashed into the rear passenger side. Caused my car to leave the road (airborne), roll twice and it landed on the roof. Those seconds knowing the wheels weren't on the road and when I hit the ground for the first time were the longest of my life. Another trucker kicked my windscreen in and peeled it out so I could get out. I was more concerned about the fact I was on the way to collect my son from school than anything else.... |

I had sepsis last year and the feeling of impending doom, was so frightening, I honestly felt I was going to die.
Choked on some chicken once, that was scary, Heimlich manoeuvre saved me...and trust me that needs to be done hard! I struggled for about 6 months with painful ribs.
Guy nearly shot me once, he said I looked like the rear end of a fallow deer, he nearly pulled the trigger! |

I had a bad bike accident last year, woke up from a coma 8 days later with my 3 kids around my bed.. strange I thought as 2 live in foreign countries and we were in lockdown. Many broken bones and a collapsed lung I'm still here to tell the tale.. |

Bacon rind is lethal. Happened to me so much I cut it off now become I don't trust myself to chew it properly! |

Hit a patch of water and aquaplaned into the side of the motorway at 70mph. My own fault was going too fast. Car drifted into the hard shoulder and broke down over shock. Apart from a sore neck I was fine. Just glad it was the morning and no one else was around me.
Learned my lesson and now always stick to the limit. |

Yeah, I was on Warfarin for about 12 years, which meant that I had to have a blood test every couple of weeks, which is no big deal as I only live a couple of minutes walk away from the DRI, but drinking can dramatically alter your INR, and I had to keep on changing ma dosage. With Edoxaban, alcohol doesn't have as much of an effect, plus it's ony 1 tablet per day, and an annual blood test |
