I’m trying to step out a bit more, leave my princess pillow and make first contact more.

If you struggle to hold a conversation with someone, then it's possibly a clue about the chemistry. Don't be disheartened if there's no energy in the conversation. It's not made easy by an email style messaging system, so if you can maintain a conversation despite it, it's probably a good sign. |

Same advice as for any single guy - just be yourself, send them a brief note that tells them what you liked about their profile, why you'd be interested in chatting and maybe finding out more about them if they were interested, leave a couple of questions dangling that gives them something to reply to.
Show some personality and maybe a little humour that kind of thing |

It may also depend if we're talking cold contact or via a forum thread where you've already interacted to a greater or lesser degree - the latter can be a bit more casual I think and just be a reference to the thread and an opening to chat more...the ice having already been broken so to speak |

Let me know if it works? Seems an excellent plan to me ... I’m a terrible wallflower but as another has said breaking the ice in the forums has helped me to be brave enough to send the first message occasionally

Don't send a closed message - conversations can't really be had if you're not actively engaging in them.
I normally message off the back of a forum post and say I liked your point/attempt a witty remark about what they said. If I was going in cold I'd say hey, I saw your profile and blah blah blah. Men are definitely easier to please than women. |

The necessity for a striking and engaging first message, such as men are required to do in order to stand out, is lessened with guys, as they don’t receive many in general.

Might be a good idea to sort your profile out, in one paragraph you are welcoming interest from single unmarried men, then further down in your profile you state NOT looking for single men, confusing or what? |
