When you get a message from someone, you reply within a minute, and you know in your heart they're off onto others. And don't even bother looking at your reply. Definitely a "NEXT" theme currently driving me mental lol |

It’s the nature of the site that people will be talking to others, kind of the point!
I’m not so entitled to expect people to drop their lives, other contacts and friends, just to chat rubbish with me, the very second that I send a message.
The messaging system on here is also pretty unwieldy and with full inboxes, folks easily miss messages.
If you feel that the person isn’t interested, then why pursue the interactions?

I’d take that as not interested.
If someone was interested in you they’d be searching out your message in the sea of other messages.
If you are batting back and forth, with little getting said then it sounds like you a just one of a number of plates being spun...

Perhaps take it beyond a "chat" format with one liners back and forth and send something a little lengthier and more meaningful? It may not change the time between replies but it will make it seem like it's been worthwhile if they reply in kind and you establish a rapport that way - may even have the effect of them looking out for your messages rather than them being just another one-liner in a sea of ping pong messages |

As others have said, the messaging system here isn't great for back-and-forth short messages, better for longer ramblings. But not everyone wants to type long messages on their mobile, assuming they've even seen it amongst an inbox full.
Like people writing "fill in later", it's just yet another Fact-of-Fab-Life.

The way I would look at it is that actions speak louder than words. If someone is logging on but not responding, it is most likely that they don’t really want to chat. |
