Wouldn’t it be better for the planet if we stopped using liquid soaps, with all of that plastic ?

East London

Or, we were allocated one dispenser and had to refill in a soap shop.

I'd be afraid of dropping it on the floor at the gym

Mind you, if you look at my body, you'd know I don't go at the gym anyway.

If you shop at Lush, you can get plastic free shampoo and conditioner bars, deodorant bars, toothpaste tablets, mouthwash tablets, loads of stuff plastic free. And if your product does come in a plastic container, you can return it to Lush, and they’ll clean it and re-use it. Bring back five plastic tubs, and you get a free face mask!

I bought a bamboo toothbrush recently, and that was all in paper and card packaging. And you can even buy plastic free ear cleaners, now, too.

We’re getting there... slowly... but there are some options already out there.

Ive only got to see the sign for Lush and I start sneezing. I buy bars of indian soaps from the asian section in Morrisons. Cardamom at the moment. Smells fragrant and makes you a bit hungry when your having a bath!

Same happens to me. Their over abundance of fragrance sets me coughing. LUSH was actually investigated in some parts of the UK over 10 years ago by Councils for that over powering fragrance which generated complaints from members of the public.

Out of interest, what are the infection risks? We've been told that washing your hands with soap kills coronavirus so it seems unlikely that would live on a bar of the stuff. I'm guessing there will be bacteria that can metabolise soaps but seems unlikely one evolved as a human pathogen is also able to live on soap?

Genuine question BTW, not an attack.

Mr

Mr"

Its the watery, mushy stuff around the soap I believe is a breeding ground. One of the reasons flowers were stopped in wards, if the soap was dried after use it wouldn't be so much of an issue, hence soap dishes are teeming with bugs.

Liquid soaps are very poor value for money generally. I purchase things with less packaging and that are overall better for the environment.
