Does wearing a bra stop your boobs sagging?

I think so... I always thought that bras stopped them sagging but during lockdown my boobs have got a lot perkier and when I spoke about this with a friend the same was true for her. Obviously genetics and other factors can come into play but it does look like it.
Not that there's anything wrong with boobs naturally falling at all. I don't know if I like saggy as a term to be honest, nor the whole shaming/idea that boobs have to be perky constantly but that's for another thread. |

"It's true...
Tho I think genes and size/weight of said norks has a big part to play.

That’s true. It’s a subject I hadn’t considered much beyond my incorrect thoughts. |

Therecare no muscles in the actual boob part, so it cant train to keep its self up. The skin stretches over time.
But if you wear a bra, it helps not to stretch the skin, so they don't become as saggy.
Obviously boob size etc still has an effect regardless. |

I mean I think with the size my boobs gravity is going to win regardless of what I do. I think where the majority of the fat deposited in your boobs is genetic and will impact how much they sag as well as your skin's elasticity. |

My mum always told me to wear a bra to prevent saggy boobs so i did and mine do not sag although not the biggest. I also walk alot and have a physical job so think this has helped too along with swimming. |

Boobs are just muscle and fat like any other part of the body.
You can't stop muscle sagging by holding it up. If you don't exercise it sags.
Otherwise we'd wearing all over bras all our life. |

Serious question : Why does it matter ?
This convo ( although interesting ) seems to be driven by ideals......
My boobs are ideal .....
In a magazine they'd be derided. Look at her tits , fancy showing them in public........
But they are beautiful tits.... just not the ideal that sells magazines, they are also beautiful because I am comfortable with them.
And they keep my knees warm. |

It’s a good question, I guess because I read that yesterday and it made me think. It shouldn’t and doesn’t matter.
For the record, boobs are gorgeous in every shape and form . |

Because women are supposed to drink from the fountain of eternal youth. I have no wrinkles, or this or that doesn't sag is what we're supposed to strive for. And just another thing to make people feel concious about. I'm getting older how surprising. My gran died at my age I'm embracing my age and appreciate it. Though I will say sometimes it's hard not to feel like I'm decrepit when the media praises the 60 year old who looks 40. |

I wish. I've always worn a bra as I have big boobs and it hasn't made a difference.
Breastfeeding and weight loss are amazing for saggy boobs if anyone wants any tips. *cries* |

Yes it is to a certain degree. I think it's because we associate perkiness with youth and youth is seen as being beautiful. Also coupled with what Granny says above about media beauty "ideals" - slim women are more likely to have smaller breasts and perkier ones.
I buy into it at times as well - I bought some new lingerie for the first time in a few months and I was sad my boobs weren't under my chin with no support. Why? It's absurd. I like my body. It might not be to everyone's taste but it has done a lot and it's beautiful in its own way. |

I've often wondered about this, it's one of those flippant ideas that's become law almost certainly with no evidence behind it.
A lot of factors could be at play, including better blood circulation without a bra, but without a long term study, probably involving twins, it should be considered "unproven" |

Its not the look for me granny, it's the physical pains that come with big boobs, if I could justify the recovery time on a tropical island with my every need served to me, I'd whip them off.
Back and shoulder pains without support are not pleasant |

Any study would have too involve the twins. |

"Am I the only one who is glad they've sagged though? They were too high up when I was younger so couldn't get tops to look good. I kind of prefer them the way they are now "
Mine suit me the way they look now, if they were perky they wouldn't look right for me and I'd always cover them up due to the unwanted attention I'd attract, plus I'd never fit on any over head restraint roller coaster seat again |

Both of my daughters had breast reductions. They both had pain and discomfort before. I never did and I have oft been puzzled by why they had breasts that didn't suit the rest of their physicality. Genetics huh ... |

I do think it’s down to genes, the size and weight of them. I’ve always wore a bra since I started wearing them and mine are saggy. I definitely think the weight hasn’t helped mine.
I do think society makes women think that only perky boobs are what women should have as the norm. Mine are now another part of me to feel ashamed of x |

"Gravity always wins
Start a thread on testicles ...... invent a testicle bra and get men to describe the shape and direction of their bollocks please."
What’s the title, ‘Gravity always brings me down’ or ‘Plums!’ ? |

They're just breast tissue and fat. The only muscle is below them - the pectoral muscles. They don't really hold up the breasts though. You could pump iron all day but your breasts still sag. Lots of factors effect skin elasticity which can be lost as we age. Dramatic changes in breast size can also contribute. |

You took the words right out of my mouth. Muscles on chest do nothing to support breast tissue. I have worn a Marks and Spencer bra since aged 13. I am now 52 (today), have DD cup boobs, and they are still pretty upright. Buy a good bra and WEAR it every day. |

I think the most important part of your comment is that you are comfortable with them. I have always loved my boobs and they have sagged for many years. I prefer them in a bra but mainly because I can get them all in a picture when they are held up. However I've been on a health kick and lost a lot of weight and for the first time since I was in school I hate the way they look. That's not because I want them to live up to an ideal but because of how it makes me feel. I'm sitting here with an order for bust lifting cream that I know won't work but I have to try something because it brings me close to tears every day. |

This thread has reminded me of my best mates grandmother. Who told me as a child that your boobs keep growing as you age. And that you needed an operation else they'd be hanging around your knees and pose a trip hazard at her age. I seriously did believe her too. Thanks OP for reminding me made my day |

Many women believe that sagging is caused by the failure of the Cooper's ligaments to support the breast tissue. In fact, sagging is partly determined by genetic factors, but a scientific study found that the biggest factors affecting sagging are cigarette smoking, a woman's body mass index, number of pregnancies, the size of breasts before pregnancy, and age.
Ladies incorrectly believe that wearing a brassiere prevents their breasts from sagging later in life and that breasts cannot anatomically support themselves. But bra manufacturers have stated that because breasts are formed of fatty tissue and not muscle, bras only affect the shape of breasts when being worn. |

My understanding was that coopers ligaments were key and that a well fitted bra was protective. The factors listed above like genetics will affect will influence changes. Ask your doctor for a more qualified opinion.
Best not to worry about the the things you can't influence. Your body is great. Anyone that thinks differently, fuck em. Or rather dont |
