Mothers, those who are like mothers, I salute you. You should enjoy your day of celebration. And should be celebrated every day.
Mothers who have been lost, today is the day for them to be thought of. As is every day. Celebrate them, please do.
Nothing I say here is designed to take away from the wonderful mothers. Or the fathers who take on the role of both parents (who should be celebrated equally), and I mean no disrespect to anyone.
To the women who can't be mothers, we are not less. We are equal.
To the people who have bad mothers we cannot love, we are not less. We are equal.
It seems as if this day, and every mention of it, is designed to stab us directly in the heart and twist the knife. It's not. For us, it is just Sunday. And there will be many, many more Sundays in our lives, some hard, some great.
For those who have chosen not to be mothers, you are not less, you are equal. And you never have to justify that choice.
I just wanted to say that. Because that knife is stabbing me in the heart. |

That’s a wonderful post and very true.
On Mother’s Day, both of us are having tough days for many different reasons and in some ways it helps to know that others are the same.
This isn’t to detract from others enjoyment of their day but it’s acknowledging the pain of those in similar positions.
Thank you OP, it was wonderfully and sensitively put |

Thank you. I hoped that it would help others. And I'm glad it has. |

Perhaps those that feel similarly to this could take today to decide that from now forward they will spend mother's day as a way to celebrate themselves just as they are |

"Sending you hugs OP - of course you're equal. I can't imagine how difficult some might find today but you're not lesser in anyway. I hope you find comfort and a reason to smile today."
Thanks Meli.
I can't speak for others who are in my boat, but despite *knowing* I'm equal, it feels like I've failed, especially on days like today.
I have comfort though, thank you. |
