RIP Marvelous Marvin Hagler one of the 4 Kings of middleweight boxing in the 1980’s who together with Tommy The Hitman Hearns gave us what many boxing experts consider the greatest 8 minutes of boxing |

100%, happy days the 1980's boxing with class acts Sugar Ray, Marvellous Marvin etc long before the evils of Sky TV got involved.
No pretence, no faux silliness at weigh in, just respectful boxers who believed in their ability.
Eubank, Benn & Watson etc were the dying embers of the good times. |

He was a great boxer in a great weight division. I remember a sportsman's evening and Alan Minter was asked did he have any regrets in life. His response was.
Turning up that night to fight Marvellous Marvin |

Amazing legacy he leaves behind, he had to do it the hard way and beat everybody to get what he deserved.
Hagler said "Smoking" Joe Frazier had told him: “You have three strikes against you: you're black, you're southpaw and you're good |

I blame Don King more than Sky to be honest, but agree with the sentiment |

when hagler fought autuofermo for the title in las vegas many fought he won but it ended a draw.
Autuofermo would then lose to alan minter and hagler was the no1 contender.
As we all know the disgraceful scenes after hagler dismantled minter shamed british boxing.
Hagler was disliked by people in charge of the boxing councils so he knew to win anything he would have to beat fighters inside the distance.
and that was proved by the decision in the ray leonard fight.
Leonard would only fight hagler if the ring was bigger, the gloves were 10 ounce instead of 8 and the distance was reduced to 12 rounds instead of the 15 hagler prefered.
it was the only way Sugar ray would take on hagler because he knew he could not go the distance or survive in a smaller ring. but hagler still agreed to it because he didnt duck anyone. and after the result he retired disgusted with the decision.
his fights were always brutal, one against john mugabe was vicious and would not happen today.
