Hi all so I watch a lot of tv from laptop (using stemio) to tv via a hdmi cable cos Netflix and Amazon are limited

Last few weeks it’s been iffy today no sound so changed hdmi and it’s same so I think the port is toast

I phoned a laptop repair shop they said it would be north of £100

Laptop only had 1 hdmi port

Please is there anyway to do same not using hdmi I’m not tech savy at all but I know it has 3usb ports and VGA —— googled that lol didn’t know what it was

You could connect a VGA cable although that would be lower quality, other options are screen mirroring (abit temperamental, and dependant on laptop/tv model, or you could possibly find a USB to HDMI cable which will do the job too..

I think so, your laptop would need to download a driver but would happen automatically

Just search for Laptop USB 3 to HDMI cable

This. We have one for emergency use. Plugs into your VGA port and has a cable to go into headphone port attached. Other end is a hdmi socket. Not quite as big quality but most people wouldn't notice the difference.

Oooh don't use vga, vga is an analogue signal, and converters just fubar the quality, push comes to show and you have a releatvly modern intel pc, you probably have a thunderbolt or usb-c port, all tb3 and 99% of usb-c have dvi/hdmi pass through, just get a usb-c to hdmi cable, but ffs don't use vga. Failing that usb2 hdmi dongle are available, they tend to be crap if you want to use them for anything that needs decent response times (gaming etc) but for video output should be just fine. All the above available on amazon

TB3 ports look exactly the same as a usb-c port, but will have a little lightning bolt above them signifying thunderbolt. You may have thunderbolt 2 on older devices and that's a different port, just check device specs on manufacturers website, but if remotely recent will have usb-c, usb3 or tb3

You could get a Fire stick? You can download Netflix/Prime apps straight onto there. It plugs in just like HMDI cable and you don't need to faff around with a laptop.

Was going to suggest chromecast but it's not compatible with Prime (some sort of Google/Amazon beef going on)

I hate kodi with a passion. I spend more time fixing issues with it than actually watching things! But if you have the fire stick you should just be able to access other streaming apps from there?

They don't want to use prime/netflix, but rather the streamio app. Also prime is coming to chrome cast, already on android tv atm.

Oh I see, I misunderstood the initial post. I thought they were trying to watch Netflix/Prime on their TV through a second device.
