Can you chat with strangers on WhatsApp without giving out your number?

I don't think so I think they must have your number.

This is why people tend to use telegram or kik.

There and to the left a bit

No - your number is effectively your WhatsApp ID

There are other similar apps that don't rely on numbers though

Manchester (she/her)

No. Kik or Telegram.

Signal more secure than WhatsApp, although I believe we're still covered under the GDPR. I've switched to Signal for my non EU/UK contacts.

Same here. My friends in the US all seem to be switching.

Kik is crap. Telegram is basically WhatsApp without your phone number

Kik is not safe at all. Everything is totally unencrypted and they're privacy policy clearly states you give them full rights to use anything you send on their platform even after you delete your account!!

If you want something "anonymous" but secure. Use wickr. Your information should not be how you pay to use a service/app.

I'd never use Kik, it's the least secure of all chat platforms.

I gave up on Wickr ages ago as I got fed up with it crashing all the time.

Telegram is excellent.
