All tinned soups taste vile to me. You're better taking a jar of passata and adding herbs, garlic, pinch of salt for an instant tomato soup with none of the thickeners, colourants and preservatives.

Apparently tinned soup is one of the worst things you can eat, cos its really high in salt ( full of the joys, I am)
I still like it alot though. Beany and lentelly ones are most likely to feature |

I make my own soups all the time no matter what the season is. I don't live on the bloody continent.
This week is broth (pearl barley, peas, split peas ) with notchicken lumps in it cos im vegan. Loads of fresh carrot and onion and enough garlic to keep even those with no noses away. Few herbs too. My fave own soup is lentil.
Tinned soup - It has it's place in every cupboard if you can find a half decent one.
I had some in for Lockdown.
Those I will eat in emergencies are :
Scotch Broth
Spring Vegetable
Summer Vegetable
Mushroom
Broccolli and Cheese
Tuscany Style Minestrone
Carrot , Ginger and Quinoa
Lentil ........
Got to hunt down good ones.....

There is a lot of old people in the world. Oldies love it, soft enough to eat with false teeth "
Thanks for sharing your experiences. I look forward to that day should I ever grow old. |

I'm not a fan of soup and rarely eat it (drink it ?)
On the rare occasion I do take soup it will be homemade vegetable soup.
Don't think I've had tinned soup since I was a child |

I hate liquid food including smoothies etc - it's all wrong!"
I'm the same
I don't like wet food
To the degree I'm not too struck on gravy
I have to be proper in the mood for sauce
In more ways than one these days |

a quandary, could you change my mind? |
I'm not a fan of tinned soups at all.
Although I do use a condensed white wine soup as a sauce for pasta at times.
Home made potato and chorizo soup is my favourite, its thick and filling, especially with some crusty bread. |

"Heinz tomato when I'm not feeling well, always been the same way (with a splash of milk in it)
Why the splash of milk? "
Nan always used to do it to clean the can when I was a kid, kinda stuck... Who knows, strange thing you pick up in youth and all that |

Just wondered as it's something I'd not heard of but seen it mentioned twice in this thread |

Like many others I have amassed a lockdown stock of tinned soup. Figured I could survive on that if ill in bed for a month.
Two main flavours, both from Aldi, Mushroom (quite palatable cold in summer) and Carrot and Coriander (healhty and high in fibre).
I like tomato soup but find the tinned variety too salty so buy that in packet form. Aldi again. |

Because it's 'cream' of tomato soup you clean the can with milk not water! |

When I was younger and we had little food or money. Adding milk made the soup go further and didn't taste watered down with milk. |

"Like I say ingereted from my nan, not 100% sure why she did it, but as she was a ww2 lady, suppose its to get the most out of a can and all that"
It is, it makes the soup go further without tasting watered down. |

Scrolling back up the replies I see Potato and Leek getting mentioned. Again one which can be very palatable chilled.
I have always shied away from anything chicken or other meats as I suspect that the vital ingredients are sourced well down the recoverable meat supply chain. Probably by pressure washer!
Were it not for the fact that this thread is about canned soup, I would extol the virtues of both the Khadi and the Dhal which my Curry Mummy gives me a weekly supply of. The former being yoghurt based and the latter from a variety of lentils or pulses. Both second to no canned soup in existence. |
