It's more something that Granny said that resonated with me yesterday - the idea that once you create a thread, it's in the public domain and it's there for all who use the forum. I think that makes a lot of sense to be honest (obviously depending on the subject and avoiding any horrible comments!).

I think we should be more welcoming of all who want to post on our threads (minus any malice/derogatory comments). We don't really own our threads, our original posts can be challenged and questioned and even have tangents brought in.

I've started explaining to newbies that yes I'll have a jibe, that no, there's no malice in it and how if they're asking questions I may seem to be taking a right arse about face way round and asking what may seem like stupid random questions, but what I'm actually doing is trying to get them to find their own answer.

You do have a point, it does create tension and sometimes you can almost read the tension rise. Perhaps I'll avoid certain posters more now but then sometimes it's an interesting thread, someone else makes a good point that I want to comment on? Hmmm. I'm not sure.

I force myself not to open it, even if the title looks interesting. I never used to and I found myself getting more and more angry and frustrated, especially if I could see an image being portrayed that was far from the experience I had of that person. I get that. I've people that I may not particularly like and I'll do that. A fair argument or point is exactly that.

There are a few tho who it isn't just dislike, it's been nasty hatred, (I cannot even be in the same postcode as them hatred) which has now begun to turn to indifference, and that's how I'd prefer it to stay. If I lurked and peeped at what they were saying the indifference could quite easily revert back, and I'm too fucking tired for that.

oh i think this is a great opinion ... people get sloppy bad habits and lose vigilance the longer they are driving ... and if you disagree then surely your driving is good enough to pass next time no problem anyway

I do agree with this but for me it's more for an easy life and my own enjoyment of this place. No people don't own the threads they post but if someone has clearly showed a dislike of me or been repeatedly unpleasant to me in the past then I probably won't comment on things they post. It's not that I don't believe I'm allowed to comment just that I want an easy life. As much as a perfectly pleasant comment on a random subject shouldn't result in grief, well... Its fab and nothing ceases to surprise me anymore
