Hello
There have been a few negative posts recently and snidey things said.
I have been on fab a very long time, but I think the last year or so has been the hardest for many people.
There were a couple of people I wanted to reach out to to say sorry if I offended or upset and I hope to meet all of you at some point at a social or a club.
If anyone else feels they may not have always behaved the best, feel free to use this thread to apologise.

I know the name but I don't recall her postings! It's a shame another person has left under these circumstances. I witnessed some poor soul being interrogated today. I honestly think some people don't actually realise they are bullies? They really lay into people who are not quite as confident as some, they show a little weakness. It's quite sad really but it's been here since I joined. |

I've been hiding my profile a lot recently and actively logging out in an attempt to stay away from the site
The Forums have been mine sanctuary through some pretty murky times over the last few months
If I was feeling fed up, an hour here could lift my spirits
I have, however, lost that feeling
A few personas aside, the fun has all but disappeared and it has, alas, been replaced by snarky comments dressed up as wit, a willingness to put others down and a complete disregard for newer forumites unless they fit into the 'shaggable' category
There is also thread domination by groups of forumites. I won't use the word clique, because it isn't just one group, they are more factions. They talk to each other and ignore anyone else attempting to contribute, to the degree that those people feel they have no voice and give up
I can't pass this off as 'that's the way it's always been' because it hasn't
I also can't excuse any Covid effect, because, if anything, this should bring us closer together as opposed to driving wedges
I rarely post anywhere but the lounge, so I am not including politics or virus forums in this analogy
Sometimes when you're in it, you can't see the destruction because you're in the thick of it
Sometimes you need to sit at the edge to see things objectively

I've been posting in the forums for almost 2 years now and I know at times things can move quickly but I rarely post in the lounge now for a lot of the reasons given above.
It's not just newbies as 90% of anything I post on here is ignored so I stick to the Irish forum where I know I have a voice.
I've always said I didn't believe there were cliques on any of the forums but there have always been agitators and shit stirrers and people who think that shouting the loudest makes them right in everything they say.
Everyone likes a laugh and a joke but some people take it beyond acceptable levels and aren't happy until someone is the butt of that joke and then they throw their hands up in mock indignation when someone calls them out on it.

Whoever it was, it’s very sad to see them no longer on site. We all get it wrong sometimes but it seems toxic people find a way to make sure we know it. Hope whoever it was that left will return knowing they don’t owe anybody anything. |

If I have an issue I take it direct to the person, but I only do it once.
My apologies only come when deserved and not out of pressure to say it.

I haven't been around much and no longer know many of the apparent forum faves.
Reading this thread, and not knowing the backstory, it reads like threads I've seen and contributed to in the past.
Bussy, you say the pandemic isn't a reason, and it isn't, but I do think Lockdown III is the most exhausting, frustrating and fractious. I'm spending a lot of my work life feeling like I'm in a forum thread with people griping about each other to me.
I don't know who the OP was but if they're recidivists they'll be back in a few weeks. If not, or this is the final break, I hope they're not checking the forum from afar and can let it all go and heal.
And, as it's the thread for it, if I have offended anyone I'm sorry you have experienced me in that way. (I think that the non-apology-apology way, isn't it?)

This. No idea what's being going on and more to the point I don't want to know, sadly though people leave here because of how they are treated on the forums as well as behind the scene stuff. It sickens me. People can be so hurtful to others without giving them a 2nd thought.

Reading this thread, and not knowing the backstory, it reads like threads I've seen and contributed to in the past.
Bussy, you say the pandemic isn't a reason, and it isn't, but I do think Lockdown III is the most exhausting, frustrating and fractious. I'm spending a lot of my work life feeling like I'm in a forum thread with people griping about each other to me.
I don't know who the OP was but if they're recidivists they'll be back in a few weeks. If not, or this is the final break, I hope they're not checking the forum from afar and can let it all go and heal.
And, as it's the thread for it, if I have offended anyone I'm sorry you have experienced me in that way. (I think that the non-apology-apology way, isn't it?)

The Forums have been mine sanctuary through some pretty murky times over the last few months
If I was feeling fed up, an hour here could lift my spirits
I have, however, lost that feeling
A few personas aside, the fun has all but disappeared and it has, alas, been replaced by snarky comments dressed up as wit, a willingness to put others down and a complete disregard for newer forumites unless they fit into the 'shaggable' category
There is also thread domination by groups of forumites. I won't use the word clique, because it isn't just one group, they are more factions. They talk to each other and ignore anyone else attempting to contribute, to the degree that those people feel they have no voice and give up
I can't pass this off as 'that's the way it's always been' because it hasn't
I also can't excuse any Covid effect, because, if anything, this should bring us closer together as opposed to driving wedges
I rarely post anywhere but the lounge, so I am not including politics or virus forums in this analogy

I agree Bussy. I've been using the forums for a long time now - the past couple of months I've experienced and read the unpleasant side to Fab and I can't say it's one I'm particularly fond of.
If I do have an issue or want to clear the air I go direct to the person. Sadly toxicity is becoming more and more widespread on somewhere that's meant to be fun and escape for us all.
For those I have genuinely upset, I'm going to borrow Lickety's words and say I'm sorry you got that side of me. What I can never agree with is anyone being bullied off of here - I'm hoping one day soon it will go back to being the slightly cliquey but at least reasonably welcoming place it was before. Lockdown is easing and with that I think a lot of people will be less frustrated/lonely/bored. |

I read that as meaning that there are two sides to every story and that’s definitely true.
I think that it’s a failing that we oftff egg n demonise people and make saints of those we consider the victim, not just on here but in the world in general.
I think that lockdown has hit people far harder than we freely admit and whilst an individual might disagree, they can’t speak for everyone or the deeper consequences.
It’s not just on here but SM as a whole is filled with more resentment, rage and frustration than I’ve ever seen it. It’s overly simplistic to say ‘be kind’ and disingenuous to expect it but tempers are frayed, emotions are high and frustrations are being worn on sleeves.
I guess that this is symptomatic of that |
