Buy a new one if you can, look online at Eurocarparts they generally have a sale on.
The inner gubbins of the starter motor wears over time so you don't know what you're buying if you get it from a scrapyard.
A new one might cost a bit more bit you'll get a warranty with that too. |

Typically they are less than £100, buy the time you’ve been and got a second hand one and fitted it, it’s no cheaper and chances are it’s down to bushes or solenoid that it’s failed (ie life expectancy) so you’ll be doing it again sooner rather than later |

"Has the car been checked over and it’s confirmed it’s the starter motor needing replaced?
If so buy a new one if you intend to keep the car. "
Yeah I checked the battery and connections. Only thing left is the stater. It usually wotkd fine but does its party trick on occasion where it doesn't engage on the flywheel and makes a scratchy noise |

"Your best bet in my opinion is an exchange refurbished unit, where exchange your old one for one they have replaced all the innards. It’ll also come with a guarantee. "
Second vote for a refurbished one. |
