The limit for contactless payments will go up to £100 later this year.
Is this a ‘hurrah, I can pay for my McDonalds order now’ or are you distrusting of these things? |

Why oh why? As long as the banks will refund the amounts if a card is stolen!
My ex had his cards used and its very easy to accumulate a huge amount.

I just get cash out for the week when I know it will be needed each weekend. I then leave cards at home. I only use credit card for car service and any large payments. Never use it for contactless small amounts. |

May not be a bad thing, think of the extra tax lost due to cash in hand jobs and people not properly declaring income. |

For sure...I'm not fussed about any of that tho, my beef is it's no business of the banks where or how I shop. If the baker has bread and I have money and want a sandwich, why should the bank take a tiny percentage of that and mine our personal data too? |

Yes, it does create a system where a tiny number of companies get a percentage of all expenditure, which seems like bullshit to me |

This happened to a friend of mine when the limit was only £30, lots of £30 in lots of shops soon adds up, imagine how much you could loose on £100   |

Personally I don't like the idea of £100 contactless payments as it will just make it easier for people to go on spending sprees with your card if they get hold of it my card machine at work is caped at 30 and I won't be changing it.
It's fucking insane we went from signatures having to match up to a 4 digit pin let be honest what's easier to copy? And now you don't even need that it's just a tap of the card. Its almost like The card companies want fraud to happen |

It’s not something that bothers me, it’s rare I’ve carried cash in the last three year. If I’m going out for an evening, the day or abroad, I have a separate card I use that isn’t connected to my bank account, so even if it cloned or stolen all they get is what I have transferred for the day. |

If I lost my card or had it cloned and £100 went missing from my account I'm truly fucked for the entire month.
It's also gonna mean making less tips at work. It was proven when we started taking contactless, and then again when it went up to £45.
When paying contactless people just tap n go. They rarely consider asking to add a gratuity. When the card goes in the machine it asks the customer.
I ain't gonna stand there and ask someone if they'd like to tip me. I think it's rude.
When they pay cash they very often "keep the change" and those £1.35 a couple of times a day can make the difference between me walking to and from work or affording a bus or taxi at midnight when I finish.

It is. Everything is such a tight ship at home and at work. I appreciate they've got some serious clawing back to do but even before the pandemic it's a tough living to make. When it's busy you're doing the job of 3 people, when it's quiet you get sent on unpaid breaks so not only are you not making tips, you're not making an hourly wage when you're on a break. |

Or even a second job. The phrase "side hustle" makes it sound cool, but essentially it's normalising you needing two jobs to make ends meet.
Once upon a time a wage could keep a family, now it can barely keep an individual. |

I can't remember the last time I paid cash for something!!
All of customers.pay me online, I don't accept cash as it costs me to deposit it. Also, it's getting harder and harder to actually find an open bank to deposit the cash.

Nah it goes into the servers wages on payday. We have individual pin numbers to access the card machines so it's all linked. It's more the prompt than anything.
When it's contactless it doesn't give the customer the option to add a tip, they have to request you add one on. Then you have to leave the table, access the til, and enter it manually on the till screen, go back to the table and load it all back up again on the card machine. It doesn't take that long to do, but without the prompt they don't even think about it.

When I cut up my credit cards and started paying for everything with cash, I started to save money and cleared my debts.
With cash I can see how much I'm spending; take out £100 on a Monday and that has to last until Sunday evening. Food, diesel, take-away on a Friday, etc.
A second account pays for all my direct debits, mortgage, phone/gas/electric bills, the only time I use my bank card is when paying for something online, eg car insurance, car tax, hotels etc.

Tips is about the only thing I use cash for. I get all flustered trying to work out how much tip to leave when I pay by card. The contactless limit doesn't bother me. |

I don't trust contactless. People can walk around with card payment machines, dial up an amount, wave the machine near somebody's pockets or bag, and hey presto! It's been spotted. This will make it worse. I think contactless limits should remain pretty low.
