Die Hard reboot as lesbian action film?

Is there no end to the madness?
Don't get me wrong here, I'm all in favour of inclusive film making etc but to remake 'Die Hard' as.... as.... Anyway, I don't think Charlize could cut it myself. It's just a shame Doris Day isn't around anymore to show 'em how its done don't y'think?
Aside from anything else how are the woke one-liners going to sound? Just think about it for a moment:
Hans Gruber:
"....You know my name but who are you? Just another American who saw too many movies as a child? Another orphan of a bankrupt culture who thinks he's John Wayne? Rambo? Marshall Dillon?"
Jane McClane:
"Was always kinda' partial to Calamity Jane actually. I really dig those buckskin outfits."
Hans Gruber:
"Do you really think you have a chance against us, Ms Cowperson?"
Jane McClane:
"Whipcrackaway, gender neutral parentf***er...."
Where will it all end? |

Having a female action star does not make it woke, and Hollywood rarely comes out with new ideas so its not surprising they would remake Die Hard.
Give the film a chance on its own merits before consigning it to the trash heap before its been made. If its shit, it should be shit for many reasons, casting being just one of them. |

"I agree, but it's not going on its own merits though is it - it's shouting that it's a 're-boot' of a past action blockbuster and shouting about it's intended LGBT credentials. If it's going to be that good, why do they need to yell about it being a re-boot?
Discuss... "
Nobody is yelling about anything. This film is not in production. |

It was a pretty shit franchise with Bruce Willis at the helm, can’t see it being improved by Charlize Theron taking over.
I bet her character will be like that in the recent Mad Max film, but in an airport and with a vest top.

You certainly seem affected by the idea. I'd like to read your source, if you could post a link, perhaps the article you read implied it was a "woke" thing? |

"Charlize could absolutely cut it, but I’d much rather see more Atomic Blonde personally."
I think she's great at action she certainly has the intensity.
It doesn't matter if it's a gay female cast I would prefer if it was just a film and she's the star, straight, gay,bi or whatever the rest of cast is as long as they can act and story is good with good writing.
Making a film gay just for the sake of it seems a bit petty.
But what do I know!
Not a fan of the reboot craze but must say I really did like fury road.

"What makes you think this is to do with being woke? Desperate attempt to ring money out of a tired franchise more like."
Very much this. It is Hollywood attempting to use "wokeness" as a way to cash in.
What I always find hilarious though is that instead of coming up with new IPs and ideas with a - insert equality tick box here - lead, they cash in and ride the coat tails of the sucess of what came before. Which at least on some level takes credit away from the "woke" that they are trying to peddle.
Give me a black lesbian lead of a new action movie franchise anytime, I welcome it, so long as it is well written I don't care.
But give those creating it the merit and credit to succeed or fail on their own with new material, not try to score some extra points just because it WAS a successful franchise at some point.
In short my problem is trying to replace or recreate what was but tweaked, instead of creating new.
If no mention of DH, or a reboot was mentioned, but just a brief rundown of a similar movie having a female lesbian lead, even fewer would complain. Sure they would complain about it being a die hard rip off, but that's going to happen since everything has already been done already. The Tower or whatever it was with Dwayne Johnson was pretty much DH modified. |
