What is the law regarding using them on the pavement?
I’ve no wish to be a killjoy but I was nearly taken out twice yesterday. I could hear a whoosh as one came from behind (snigger) so glanced and moved to the side, it went by at an incredible speed. A few moments later, his mate came by.
Same thing. I could easily moved the wrong way or not heard them coming . Accidents waiting to happen. |

it appears that unless they are part of a hire-share scheme they are illegal. They're limited to travelling at 15.5mph and banned on pavements. Riders need to be aged 16 or over and have a full or provisional driving licence. I can't see the police being arsed unless they are sent out to pedestrianised places every now and then to have a purge, a bit like they do in holland with bicycles. |

You may use a trial e-scooter on the road (except motorways) and in cycle lanes.
You must not use an e-scooter on the pavement.
Traffic signs with the following cycle symbol apply to e-scooters (unless a sign is displayed prohibiting e-scooters from that particular cycle way):
STRAIGHT CUT N PASTE

When I was a kid I would’ve loved one of them. As an adult I can’t help thinking that these kids are lazy as anything and should just scoot using their own power. Having this thought made me feel old. I even raced my brother recently and refused his kids electric one in favour of a regular scooter. I won. |

"Those that ride illegal things don't give a flying fuck about the law so will ride anywhere they please. Same as cyclists riding on pavements that expect those on foot to get out of their way.
"
That’s spot on. This was in Maldon high st which is slightly downhill so he was flying. Certainly no ‘trial’ going on here and it’s borderline if over 16. It’s going to get worse. |

Same goes for the seller, wonder how many could be prosecuted.
Retailers could be prosecuted for selling electric scooters without warnings after concerns about the “menace” of illegal devices on roads and pavements |
