Hi

Anyone on here that could give me some advice on smoke machines, specifically whether mine will set off smoke alarms in venues ?

I have a chauvet hurricane 1200 and looking to test the lasers in a big hall in preparation for hiring myself out post lockdown.

Ive got the hall when I want it, im just concerned re fire alarms.

Any advice will be great, ive done some basic Googling but nothing concrete has come up.

Cheers

Most probably. Know I’ve always isolated any alarms whenever hazing a venue.

However, a hazer is going to give you a much more even and less dense effect, if that’s what your looking for?

it really does depend on the fire alarm system.

if it's a regular venue then arrange to test them during the day.

The idea is to test my lasers and smoke machine in a venue more to the size ill be running it in, and if there's enough smoke etc as the lasers need the fog/haze for the effects.

Googling has given conflicting opinions, I cant even find out if im producing wet or dry smoke etc

Yes absolutely they will, have been involved with theatre in the past. We would have to get the detectors switched off and often inform fire brigade if you were using smoke effects, unless they have specialist setup.

Short answer assume yes unless your told otherwise

True story.

The South, a Beautiful South tribute band were playing our local theatre and doing the encore, they were playing, Carry on regardless, when their smoke machine burst into flames, one of their crew, unplugged it and carried out side and the band didnt miss a beat. Top act with the gorgeous Alison Wheeler on vocals.

This is a good point. Whilst they tend to behave well, always keep an eye on smoke machines as basically they're super heating a fluid and so obviously have a heat element to them. I’ve had to remove a vertical fogger from a venue, fortunately it was during rig check and with no audience.

Up on them there hills

Don’t know about smoke machines, thought they were dry ice fans.

However, don’t use low temperature candles in a hotel room.
