Massive social inequality. Modern high tec living offset by incredible poverty, people living literally in shit, and half burned, rotting bodies floating in your drinking/washing water supply. Oh, and a nifty space programme of course. |

The India paint festival
Always wanted to go, it looks so much fun.
I also think of beautiful weddings, henna body art and women with lovely long dark hair and big brown eyes |

"I say there's a few posts today I don't quite understand "
India offers a wide range of experiences, from the truly amazing to the truly devastating. You are just seeing responses to what people have experienced, mostly probably as tourists. |

It really is a MASSIVE culture shock though and I do actually know people who have gone there with the full intention of staying for 3-4 weeks but have flown back to the UK within 3-4 days because they couldn’t handle it.
I say go, enjoy all of the chaos, take it all in and go with the flow
Southern Goa is stunning too |

I think of the welcome I received from all the families I stayed with, watching the girl who did our washing bashing hell out of my tee shirts on a stone, being served beer in a tea cup at a party so nobody knew I was a woman who drank lol, the sari shops, waking up in our bungalow and seeing faces at every window staring at me , being followed by crowds of of people whispering "vellai ben", the heat, the scenery, the poverty, the wealth, the temples, the food, the public toilets . |
